When I first arrived at high school, I was extremely nervous. The school was huge and there was not a familiar face in site. Although I was nervous, staff and students did their best to create a positive learning environment. Going into my sophomore year, I received the same positive energy from the staff and my peers. My guidance counselor, Ms. Hunter, helped me to prepare and offered me the opportunity to enroll in…
Although my current school is fantastic, I hope that Catlin Gabel will offer a superior curriculum. At my current school, I treasure the dedicated teachers who make learning fun and rewarding. Even though my friends will be hard to leave, I will be glad to make new ones. Catlin Gabel feels close to nature because of the forested environment and I appreciated the sense of community at Catlin Gabel. I wait eagerly for the math, science, and computer science classes because I love these subjects and the courses at Catlin Gabel excite me.…
“Teely, because I’m so interested in seeing you apply with your Eagle Vision Application…” Central University. “An exclusive invitation from UNCP..” UNC Pembroke. “Mai-Teelee, you’ll want to read this.” Western Carolina. All these colleges and universities showed interest in me by reaching out through emails and letters in the mail but, it wasn’t them whom I was interested in. It was you, UNC Chapel Hill. The first time I heard about you was back in my sophomore year, in AP Environmental Science by a group of classmates who had visited the campus. At that time, I didn’t care that much for colleges. I was still worried about joining clubs and trying to make more friends and just, have fun. Like any other teenager. However, I became intrigued. Just what was it that made this school so well known and liked? Once I decided that I would aim for the medical field, my friends suggested, of course, Chapel Hill. You. They said “It’s a great medical school and you’ll get in easily because you’re Asian.” And being naive, I believed them. I didn’t quite realize just how high your expectations were. But it wouldn’t be too difficult I assumed…
My organization, Smith School, is a public k-5 school in Massachusetts that was founded in 2003. We are a state identified level one school. This means that our students are among the highest performing students in the state. Our school has approximately 50 teachers, 670 students, one principal, and two assistant principals. Of the 670 students, we serve, 136 are classified as economically disadvantaged, 101 are considered learning disabled, and 33 students are identified as English Language Learners. These students are ultimately the product of our organization.…
I must say, it was such a pleasure reading your essay, “Living Like Weasels”. Your curiosity about the way we live is so brilliant that my interest about your thoughts on our outlined lifestyle has piqued me since reading. I have read several essays in the past month about animals and violence that were all delicately written and filled with meaningful messages, but yours has stood out to me the most because I feel as it was written clearly and precisely. Your message about living as we should was explicitly conveyed, yet it held so much significance concerning the way humans live versus the life of a weasel.…
When I look back at my High School experience senior year was astounding, mainly due to my distinctive institution. I had the opportunity to partake on the football team, track & field team and was a honor student. Another benefit from my alma mater was the diversity of the institution and large number of students (2000 students). In my opinion Wilson Senior High School was the best DC Public School with high test scores and extracurricular activities for everyone.…
This film depicts “common schools” that were created to teach a common body of knowledge. These schools were ideally free, high quality, and funded by tax dollars. This “common school” was an idea created by Horace Mann, who standardized this new “school”, and was considered the “Patron Saint” of public school. The early school took place in a one-room rundown schoolhouse, with very few resources for teachers to choose from. Teachers were uneducated and oftentimes school only began after all the work around the house was done for the day. Public schools have achieved the goal set by Mann to provide free education because the public schools of the present are (mostly) free and tax dollar funded. However, most schools have fees for things like…
Why Queensmount Is a Great Place to go to School “It’s too hard. I don’t like my teacher, I’m bored”. It's an unusual thing to hear students say anything nice about their school. Not only unusual, perhaps, but completely unknown.…
A large amount of my friends and boys at my school have applied to enroll at Moeller. And since I'm new to this area I've asked around about it. All I've heard is great positive things, about how amazing the athletic programs are, and how much the education is elevated above other schools. I'm very much looking forward to the experience that I'll get from Moeller High School.…
Cooks Hill Campus has proven to be a turning point in my life. As I heard about the educational facility I knew it would be in my best interest to apply. Beforehand I had experienced many different ways of learning. Cooks Hill has proven to be the only school I have actively attempted to attend…
Throughout my three years at Woonsocket High School, I grew as in individual. Enhanced my sense of the community. Also I have advanced my knowledge basis to prepare myself for the workforce and life outside of school. These are all important things because they taught me what life as an adult might be and taught me a lot. Woonsocket High was a very good environment for me. Sometimes I felt like school was very stressful, but I could I say I saw Woonsocket High School grow as a school, and I’m happy to be apart of the class of 2016.…
ROCKVILLE- In the past few years, students at Rockville High school have felt that the system of multiple teachers teaching the same courses has impacted them unfairly. They feel that despite weekly PLC meetings by teachers, the differences in style, grading, and content lead to a lack of consistency between the classes.…
When I was in high school, I didn’t like school at all. I felt as though it was a waste of time. I now see how important a high school education is as well as high education. Actively working as well as experiencing different topics throughout the courses I am currently taking here has exposed me to various subjects, ways of thinking and doing. This has in return boosted my confidence. Whenever I have a conversation with people I want to add to the intellectual conversation I am having. Strayer has already and will continue to help me change my…
I try to piece together what I've learned from all subjects, humanities, art and science to find solutions and answers to the crisis we face today. I am motivated by my belief in justice, and driven by my passion for biology to be a part of innovations in the health and science world that will move us forward. Of course, its the beauty of art that keeps me whole. Because I come from a liberal and progressive background of people and ideas that support me, I continue the tradition of engagement in the world and lifelong learning, academically and spiritually. Seattle University values the ability to explore and question everything, a tradition of thinking for ones self. Because I have love for many things ranging from Edward Hoppers masterpieces to biotechnology, I believe that Seattle University will give me the best education, in one of the best cities in the…
To sum up, with all these privileges and opportunities, I knew that it was on my best interest to attend any other universities than UHD. I am looking forward to reach my full potential for academic, personal, and career growth through UHD’ excellent programs.…
