To ease into this, a description of our stories would be in order to fully understand what’s being compared and contrasted. In “The Story of an Hour”, we are introduced to Mrs. Mallard. One major aspect present in the stories is irony. For example, Mrs. Mallard’s excitement over the death of her husband, and Ulrich and Georg dying when they had just resolved the conflict. Another point is that in the story, situations happens that you don’t expect. Mr. Mallard isn’t dead, and both men die by a wolf attack. Both stories revolve around death, and both stories have a situation occurring in the opposite of the background. In the dark, eerie woods, Ulrich and Georg become friends. In the sad and gloomy atmosphere of her home, Mrs. Mallard finds peace.
While comparing the stories, it isn’t hard to find differences, whether in plot, characters, or setting. In this case, one difference is flow in the story. “The Interlopers” has more of a climatic story, and “The Story of an Hour” has a plot that is less dramatic. The characters are really different as “The Interlopers” is centered on male enemies and “The Story of an Hour” is centered on a female and her husband. Though both stories have deaths in them, Ulrich and Georg died by wolves, and Mrs. Mallard died from a heart
