The Issue Of Animal Cruelty
“Behavior that causes pain or suffering to a person or animal” is defined as cruelty. Some people might think that animal cruelty consists only of people actively being unkind to animals. That is not completely true. In fact, there are many forms of animal cruelty, not all of which are widely known, including animal neglect, animal slaughtering, animal breeding, farm practices, experimentation, hoarding, and use of animals for entertainment. While some organizations exist to help prevent animal cruelty, the lack of awareness surrounding animal cruelty issues has allowed many forms of animal cruelty to continue unregulated, and something needs to be done to stop this.     Animal cruelty is a pressing subject in today’s society. Even though we use animals for their fur, entertainment, research and as food, we have to do it in a humane way that minimizes pain and suffering towards the animal in use due to animal rights laws that have been enacted.     Determining the rights of non-human animals and deciding how to treat them may not be a choice available to our human society. As an advocate for the rights of animals, Tom Reganʻs three main goals are to abandon the use of animals in any scientific research, discontinue all commercial animal agriculture, and to completely terminate both commercial and sport animal hunting. To support these intentions, Regan argues that every human and non-human animal possesses inherent value, which makes them all more than a physical object or vessel.
