The Jewelry and the Necklace;
The character analysis and the similarities between Mrs. Lantin and Matilda Loisel The stories of The Necklace and the Jewelry were written by Guy De Maupassant. This stories were created between 1881 and 1886. Both of the story was woman oriented. Both of the story show the womans’ features that is common. The thought of being beautiful and looking wealthy is one of the most attractive things between most of the woman. And also these emotion makes them jealous. The story of jewelry introduce the ironical relationship between being beautiful and looking beautiful. Mrs.Lantin is a beautiful woman. He married with Mr. Lantin. He is a civil servant working under the minister of the interior. Mrs. Lantin pleased with her husband. She conducted household with such a clever ecenomy that they lived in luxury.Similarly, The story Necklace is about to being wealthy and looking beautiful. Matilde loisel was born in poor family. Although she wanted to married rich man, he had to choose to marry with little clerk, so she seems that se did not love his husband. Matilde Loisel desire to be an attractive woman. He obsessed with jewelry, fancy and the life that with them. Although both of the character are different some ways, They like eachother some ways. These woman was fond of pinning jewelry, tonning out and dressed well. Wealthy and looking elegant is important for them,so the jewelry was crucial for them because it is the symbol of being weathy and looking elegant. Both of them are dutiful wife but they are dissatisfied and selfish woman because their husbands worked hard all day. While their husbands worked all day, their aims thinking of wealthy things. Mrs. Lantin always went to theatre and he want to be as the other woman. Others have lots of jewelry or weathy things. Similarly, Matilde Loisel want to go ball that is arranged for the rich people. When he found the oppurtunity to go this ball, his first aim become looking wealthy . Moreover, they had a jealous. It is a common sense of between woman. They envy the others because they had a lots of good things such as jewelry but Mrs. Lantin and Mathilde loisel did not have them, so they feel sheepish and they were under the influnce of their passion.In addition, They ashamed, so they wanted to pin the jewely. Because it a symbol. A woman who dressed well and pinning jewelry. If they did not pin the jewelry, they fell ashamed. It is the demonstration of pridefulness. A good example of her pridefulness is when Mathilde says that there is ""I’m nothing more humiliating than looking shabby in the company of rich women" When we look at the their lifes and ideas, we see main features that like eachother. İt is not exact that they are whether moral or not. but they are the victim of their passions. Maybe this is the answer. They did not pleased their life. They want more and more. They did not gain advantage from this. Mathilde had to live a life that is worse than his normal life because of the misunderstanding. She lost her most important thing. This is the beauty. Similarly, Theatre and opera was important for Mr Lantin. Because it is place that come rich people. He died for the sake of going Opera. One night, he went to opera and come back home freezing, she had a bad cough and later died from phonumonia. Greedy, envy and wanting more did not provide a good life them. They are under the influence of their passions, so they did not become really happy.
