reflection on her life that was caused by deception in her every love relationship that ultimately

The usage of religion in the story also signifies unification in the afterlife, like
Christians and Catholics believe and the belief that Granny Weatherall hopes to see her daughter
Hapsy in the afterlife because she visualizes Hapsy, who died at pregnancy, holding a small
baby. All of the features resemble Granny’s reflection on her life; the vanity of her deception
proves to be her downfall.
On the whole, the disintegration of Granny only proved that life will never be perfect—
the pain it can bring, the joy it can hold, and the scars it can leave are the effects of life. Granny
being left at the altar caused her more pain than anything because she could not believe that
abandonment would permanently damager her forever. Ultimately, Granny’s inability to let go
of her fear of abandonment, George, and deception only gave the readers a significant theme to
