The Jurassic period, which began in 200,000,000 and lasted 65,000,000 years; the Jura Mountains are where most of the rocks are formed and found. The rocks formed are marine deposits, such as shale, sandstone and limestone. These rocks can be found in every continent in the United States.…
Jurassic Period of the Mesozoic Era|Dinosaurs dominated the land fauna but the Jurassic also saw the origination of the first birds. Also a lot of sea life such as modern looking sharks and rays and giant marine crocodiles. |199.6 to 145.5 million years ago|…

There were many different theories that arose in regards to how dinosaurs became extinct. Some of the theories are floods, ice ages, poisoned food supply, etc. However, what most likely happened was a meteor crashing into the planet. The meteor caused an immediate impact on the life that it hit directly, causing them to vanish. The after effects were a drastic climate change and the fact that the meteor most likely caused a sonic boom that also ended the lives of many other animals. After the meteor hit, it probably caused volcanoes and made much of the land uninhabitable due to wild fires. Additionally, after this period of heat there was chance of a period of cold and dark. Together, this all combined was the reasoning behind why the dinosaurs, and most life went extinct, despite being in their prime and the most diverse they had ever…
The Cenozoic is divided into three periods, the Paleogene, the Neogene, and the Quaternary. Paleogene and Neogene are relatively new terms that now replace the deprecated term, Tertiary. The Paleogene is subdivided into three epochs, the Paleocene, the Eocene, and the Oligocene. The Neogene is subdivided into two epochs, the Miocene and Pliocene.…
The claim has been made that understanding trace fossils will help scientists understand the water ecosystem in the Jurassic Terrestrial time period. To understand marine deposits, scientists must look for vertebrate fossils, plant body, as well as trace fossils. This causes scientists to dig deeper in their research on fossils, which leads to motivation to discover more. By actively researching and understanding the trace fossils and their use of the water ecosystem, scientists can understand the role of the water ecosystem back in the Jurassic Terrestrial time period. In Continental Trace Fossils as the Key to Understanding Jurassic Terrestrial and Freshwater Ecosystem, scientists study and research termites, bees and their hives, and crayfish.…
Marine reptiles of land and air created on day five can include dinosaurs such as the plesiosaur pterodactyl. The stegosaurus and other plant eating dinosaurs fall into the land mammals created on day six. Science has assigned dinosaur eras like the Triassic period as being over 245 million years ago, which supports the idea that creation days were longer than six 24-hour periods. In the article, Morris defends the argument that the existence of dinosaurs goes against the belief that no death or sin occurred before Adam and Eve, by pointing to geological studies that those in existence before Adam and Eve were herbivores. Paleozoic eras…
Were dinosaurs warm or cold blooded has been a long time debated issue. Scientist believe dinosaurs were much like modern day reptiles, cold blooded, and others believe dinosaurs were much like mammals and others birds, warm blooded. Dinosaurs are creatures that lived on Earth around 251 million years ago. Dinosaurs lived in the Mesozoic Era. This era contained three separate subsections: the Triassic Era, the Jurassic Era, and the Cretaceous. When the Mesozoic Era ended, most or a majority of the dinosaurs were extinct due to a catastrophic event that is still unknown to us today. Dinosaurs walked in an upright position, some dinosaurs used two legs, other used four to walk and move around their environments. Dinosaurs came in an array of sizes. Humans were able to examine the…
There is certainly room for debate when building the definitive list of US museums for dinosaur lovers. Diversity of species, number of specimens, presentation, architecture, accessibility and interactivity are all factors in the museum experience. Fortunately, the United States offers a rich diversity of dinosaur museums sure to please everyone from the most casual dinosaur fan to the hardened paleontologist.…
There are many theories on how dinosaurs became extinct but scientists have not yet found a proven reason why. About sixty-five million years ago Dinosauriformes, or as we call them Dinosaurs, walked and roamed planet Earth. These massive carnivores, herbivores, and omnivores lived many years on earth before humans appeared. There were several variations of dinosaurs such as land, sea, and air dinosaurs. For a millions of years the dinosaurs thrived in their environment. They had an abundant food supply to eat and they had ample space to roam and reproduce offspring. Unfortunately the dinosaurs did not last forever since they all mysteriously became extinct. Three of the main theories on how dinosaurs became extinct are climate changes, an asteroid impact, and massive volcanos erupting.…
The history of the Earth is categorized into four different geological time eras beginning with, the Precambrian Time (4.6 billion-544 million years ago), the Paleozoic Era (544-248 million years ago), the Mesozoic Era (248-65 million years ago), and the Cenozoic Era (65 million years ago to the present). Eras are broken down further into smaller units called periods, which help scientists detect changes in Earth's history. Geologists's main sources of evidence for geological eras, and periods are the ages of rocks. There are several methods geologists't use to determine the age of rocks such as, relative age, the law of superposition, index fossils, relative dating, and radioactive dating. Through scientific reasoning and evidence this research…
Dinosaurs strolled the earth over 245 million years ago. So it would only be fair to go all the way back to the beginning and quickly summarize how it all happened. Earth’s history is categorized into two eras, and then categorized by periods. The two eras are Paleozoic era, and Mesozoic era.…
Many people whether they are kids or adults have only dreamed to see a real live dinosaur. In the book Jurassic Park, this dream becomes a reality. Dr. John Hammond the owner of Jurassic Park had put together a team composing of scientist and computer engineers with the intention of creating dinosaurs back from the Jurassic period. The team is able to create many types of dinosaurs taking orders from Dr. Hammond however the dinosaurs had experienced difficulties and posed a greater threat than anticipated. I believe that Dr. Hammond’s ambition of building Jurassic park was unwise as it turned out to be more complicated, not to mention more dangerous as expected. First, Dr. Hammond would have done anything to create Jurassic park, but when it came to money he was the greediest person. Second, he was a very ignorant man, not listening to anyone. Finally, he had lacked intelligence on both dinosaurs as well as any other animals/equipment used to create them. Not only did Dr. Hammond allow these “problems” to get in his way, but he allowed his ambition to drive him there creating chaos.…
The Permian was the last period during the Paleozoic era. It occurred approximately 299 million years ago and was the point in time in which much of the earth’s land mass came together to form the supercontinent, Pangea. While years of study has relieved the climate conditions and life forms present during this period, the events surrounding the mass extinction that signified its end remains a mystery today. The end-Permian mass extinction is regarded as the largest mass extinction event in the earth’s history, with marine and terrestrial life declining by 95% and 75% respectively (Shen et al. 2014). While clear that life on earth was greatly affected, many scientists are conflicted on the cause/causes of the extinction event.…
For over 150 million years, dinosaurs dominated Earth. They were incredibly successful-so successful in fact that all of the other animal groups had no choice but to play a secondary role in nature. 65 million years ago, however, every species of dinosaur went extinct as well mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs, ammonites, and many families of brachiopods and sea sponges. Also, many shark species as well as most vegetation did not survive(“Dinosaur Extinction”). What could have possibly killed off the dominant animal group of the time? The answer to this question is still unclear but there are many hypotheses that attempt to explain this extinction event. To find out exactly how this happened, evidence must be gathered not only from fossils…
