give him the authority to conduct the suicide plan. Said refers “The crimes of the occupation are countless. The worst crime of all is to exploit the people’s weaknesses and turn them into collaborators. By doing that they not only kill the resistance, they also ruin families, ruin their dignity and ruin an entire people”(1:16:19-1:16:41). Said’s father was a collaborator. He experienced how life can turn cruel if one give up resisting and turn to the Israel. Khaled also claims about the legitimacy of suicide bomb. He claims “If we can’t live as equals, at least we’ll die as equals. There can be no freedom without struggle. As long as there is injustice, someone must make a sacrifice”(1:09:39-1:10:05). In fact, the suicide bombing itself has the elements that make the bombers empowered. When Said and Khaled tries to start the plan and heading to Tel Aviv, Jamal refers “You are in control, their lives are in your hands. Stay calm”(40:30). It gives the sense to Said and Khaled that they are holding a dominant position against the Israel.
And these aspects make Said and Khaled to strife between operating the plan or giving up the plan. We can see this kind of conflict through Khaled after he talks with Suha when they were trying to find Said. Suha tries to convince Khaled to stop the plan. Suha claims “If you kill, there’s no difference between victim and occupier”(1:10:11). She also claims that suicide bombing will make the situation worse than before the act itself will give a legitimacy to Israel for attacking Palestine. She refers “Don’t you see that what you’re doing is destroying us? And that you give Israel an alibi to carry on? We have to turn it into a moral war”(1:11:06-1:11:20). Suha knows that suicide bombing will not end the occupation. Not only Suha but also Khaled knows this fact. He knows that this plan is also morally wrong. Killing numerous people will make the situation worse. People who remain after the plan in Palestine will suffer more than before. They might be remember as hero, but their families and friends will live painful and horrible lives. Their civil rights will degrade faster than before and increase the placement of military in Palestine. However, as Khaled argues, Israel won’t stop occupation even though they stop their plan. Throughout the conversation between Khaled and Suha, it indicates that the actual reason of suicide bombing is revenge rather than being a martyr and sacrificing. Humiliation and revenge are the main reasons of the suicide bombing. If they were fully motivated by the God’s will, Said and Khaled both would not seek for role reversal.
