After children were taken out of work, their families were did not have enough money to support themselves and their family. As a result, children had to start working again. Craig and Marc quickly changed their goal to helping communities have easy access to fresh water, food and other necessities, so that children can go to school instead of going to fetch water, or helping to grow crops. They also “empower people to change and improve their communities for the long term.” (we.org, Our Impact) In the words of Craig Kielburger, “Over the years, we’ve discovered that it’s far more important to reach as many people as possible—especially youth—and empower them with the knowledge that it’s not up to anyone else, it’s up to them to make a difference.” (metowe.com, Craig and Marc Kielburger) To illustrate this, We Charity has presented new mothers in the Baraka Maternity Wing in Kenya with prenatal and postnatal care, and the knowledge to raise a healthy, successful child.
With this, mothers in Kenya can raise their children properly, and they can go to school. On top of We Charity, Craig and Marc Kielburger have also created Free the Children, a empowerment organization, and Me to We, a social enterprise. (thestar.com, Changing Attitudes One T-shirt At A Time) Activists Craig and Marc Kielburger created not one, but three organizations/charities to help support and convey their cause. They continuously contribute to their charities and programs by changing their goal when they realized it was not enough, building new things and empowering communities to help send children to
school.
