The main characters in the king’s speech are the King who’s called Bertie in the movie and is played by Colin Firth, the Queen Elizabeth who is played by Helena Bonham Carter and Lionel Logue who is played by Geoffrey Rush. Also through out the movies you see the Kings daughters and many other people who play a role in his life. Mostly it focuses on the king, his wife, and the doctor. The Kings Speech is nothing like a usual wartime movie. Instead it’s about the king’s speech and how he can improve it. It doesn’t focus around the war that’s going on or anything close to it that much at all. World War II going on in this movie doesn’t affect the focus on King George VI and his “difficulties of speech.” It is focused on the war in some ways because that’s why he has to give speeches and other events that he has to do, but the main idea of this type of war movie is just about his speech. This film mostly tries to keep the focus on the relationship between King George VI and his therapist. Queen Elizabeth is also a supportive character also. There are scenes with Hitler giving speeches (in which the King is basically jealous of his speaking abilities). The movie opens with the King making a speech in front of tons of people. Now if you picture that you’re so scared that you just want to scream for help, that is how the king felt while he was up there in front of all those people while they were just a foot or two away from him listening to his every word and watching his every move while he was trying to give his speech which overall just made it worse for him because he was scared and he was panicking inconspicuously.
The King’s wife Queen Elizabeth seeks out help from a different type of speech therapist than what the King had been trying because nothing was helping. The new therapist she found was Lionel Logue.
