Assignment 1
1. Amir recalls an event that occurred in 1975, when he was twelve years old and growing up in Afghanistan. He does not say what happened, but says the event made him who he is. “”Remembering the precise moment crouching behind a crumbling mud wall peeking into the alley near the frozen creek. I’ve learned how you can bury the past because the past claws its way out.” Realizing I have been looking into that alley for the last twenty-six years.
2. Amir and Hassan are very different in their social status. Amir comes from a rich Pashtun family while Hassan comes from a poor Hazara family. Amir lived with his father, Baba, in a lavish home in Kabul. Meanwhile, Hassan and his father, Ali, lived in a small mud hut on the grounds of Baba’s estate, and Ali worked as Baba’s servant. Hassan is very poor while Amir is rich. Rahim khan is babas business partner and a father figure to amir when baba isn’t present during amirs conflicts.

4. Amir's mother, Sofia Akrami, died while giving birth to Amir in 1963. Sofia was a successful professor of classic Farsi literature at the local university in Kabul Amir's mother died in childbirth. Therefore, Amir had never seen her. He was nursed by a Hazara woman who later nursed Hassan as well.
5. Hassan's mother. She was Ali's notoriously beautiful first cousin and second wife, who ran off with a troupe of dancers. She refused to even hold Hassan when he was born. Years later, she returns to Wazir Akbar Khan to beg forgiveness from Hassan and ends up helping raise Sohrab. She dies peacefully when he is four.
6. Ali is the lifelong servant of Baba's family. He grew up with Baba in much the same way as Amir and Hassan. Baba's family adopted him after his parents were killed for no reason by Pashtuns. Ali was adopted when he was about the same
