The Kristen’s Cookie Case
Advantages:
• Customers: More customers can be served during operating hours as compare to previous strategy.
• Waiting time for customers to get there order: Negligible for ready “popular” cookies & comparatively lesser for ‘special’ make to order cookies.
• Customer Satisfaction: Customers will be happy to get there orders quickly.
• Number of cookies: More number of popular & make to order cookies can be served.
• Work pressure: Make-to-stock system will reduce the work pressure due to less of a time concern.
• Make-to-stock system: Since process is independent of client orders, more cookies can be made in less time by utilizing resources to its best.(for eg: Using electric mixer to its maximum limit,i.e once to make a dough for 3 dozen cookies instead of using three times). Also process can be twisted according to convenience. As a result Cost-of-time per cookie will decrease.
• Higher productive than previous system.
Disadvantage:
Capital Investment: High capital investment to buy ingredients for both “pre-stock” and “fresh cookies”.
• Risk & wastage: Higher financial & ‘time’ risk than conventional method, & if pre-stock cookies are not sold on till they fresh, they might go waste.
• Time: As a student, a very big disadvantage is the time factor. They have to invest almost double the time required than previous method. [Time to make popular cookies before operating hour +time to make special cookies during operating hours].
• Ideal time: If most of the orders are for popular cookies during operating hours it will result in high ideal time.
• Process flow: The normal process flow to bake cookie during operating hours might be interrupted several times due to multiple or simultaneous customer pick up in short span or at the same time. Current process might get delay because of same reason. This makes difficult to give out pick up time estimation to customers with “make-to-order” request.
• The automated email system: To give pick up time this
