“The Lady or the Tiger” The Lady or the Tiger is about a princess and her lover. The princess and her lover were madly in love with each other. The princess’s father wasn’t very happy when he found out that his daughter had a common man has her lover. When the King found out about the princess having a common man has her lover he sent him to the arena. The tiger is behind the door the young man opens because the princess is jealous, the princess feels hatred, and the princess chooses for him.
The princess was a very jealous person. Previously, she saw her lover and the lady chosen, is behind the door looking at each other and making eyes at each other. “Often had she seen, or imagined that she had seen, this fair creature throwing glances of admiration upon the person of her lover, and sometimes she thought these glances were perceived and even returned” (Stockton 7). When her lover looked at her for some advice jealousy kicked in and she motioned toward the right choosing his fate. Out of the right door came the tiger.
The Princess was a hateful person towards the lady behind the door. She doesn’t like the lady because if the princess’s lover picked the door that the lady was behind then her lover was going to get married right on the spot to the lady she hated very much. “It was one of the fairest and loveliest of the damsels of the court who had been selected as the reward of the accused youth, should he be proved innocent of the crime of aspiring to one so far above him; and the princess hated her” (Stockton 7). The princess hated the lady so much she couldn’t stand the thought of her lover being with that beautiful lady all of his life. The hatred was so strong that it leads to the princess’s lover’s death.
The princess gets to choose the fate of her lover’s death. He looks at her for a second to get her advice to which door he should open. The princess motions her hand to the right to the door
