The Lady Or The Tiger Literary Analysis

In the story, "The Lady or the tiger" By Frank B. Stockton, there was semi-barbaric king that ran a controlling kingdom under his power. From his Latin neighbors, he used the idea to build a public arena for his own purposes. He decided to use the arena as a barbaric trials, where the accused would have to decide pick their fate between two doors. One door lead to punishment, death by tiger. And the other door led to a lady where the accused would have to marry her, with no option not too. The king had a daughter, who had fallen in love with a courtier. He didn't approve of this relationship. He condemned that the courtier be put to trial. The day of the trial, the princess and the courtier made eye contact. She knew what behind the two doors. She hinted him to pick the door to the right. And in that moment, she knew what his fate was. The princess led the courtier to the lady for several reasons. One being that she didn't want to see her lover shredded to pieces by a tiger. "The only hope for the youth in which there was any element of certainty was based upon the success of the princess in discovering this mystery; and the moment he looked upon her, she had succeeded, as in his soul he knew she would succeed." I think this is referencing that she wouldn't
let him die, because he knew in his heart she didn't want to see that happen. Even though, the princess didn't want to see her lover with someone else. She knew that him being killed by a tiger, wasn't worth the pain over him being with the lady behind the door. But, she still hopes things will work out, and they will still be able to the be together. The princess has given me another reason to believe why she choose the door with the lady behind it.
"He understood her nature, and his soul was assured that she would never rest until she made plain to herself this thing, hidden to all other lookers-on, even to the king." The courtier knows that the princess will make the right choice, even if that means she can't be with him. Even though, the decision is upto the courtier, he is looking to the princess for the answer. He understood her essence, knowing that she will lead him into the right door. Despite the king and the crowd not reading the signs. The courtier knew he would end up with the lady. Whether or not the princess liked this
option. The last quote I choose was, "How in her grievous reveries had she handed her teeth, and torn her hair, when she saw his start of rapturous delight as he opened the door of the lady!" The reason why I think the princess led the courtier to the door with the lady was because she would despise the relationship with the new woman he was given. But it was worth him not being killed by the tiger. The princess imagined what it would look like if he choose the door with the lady. That gave all the more reason for her to lead him to that door. She knows that she still can't be with him, but it was better that way. In conclusion, the king would not allow the princess to the be with courtier. Even though she truly loved the man, she knew couldn't be with him. The princess hinted towards the door with the lady behind it. Because she knew if he would've chosen the door with the tiger, he would've died and she didn't want that to happen to him!
