The Landlady And Lamb To The Slaughter
Roald Dahl a well known fictional story writer, wrote several short stories. Two of these stories are The Landlady and Lamb to the Slaughter. The Landlady is about a young naive recently graduated schoolboy who is on his journey to success, but along this journey he stays at a boarding house the owner of this boarding house is an eager elderly women who seems harmless at first but she is actually a cold blooded murderer. The other story, Lamb to The Slaughter is similar in a way it is about a stay at home wife “Mary Maloney” who seems like a caring wife at the beginning but as the plot goes on she realises her husband is leaving her, she goes “AWOL” and murders her husband. Two connections I have made are the similarities in Lamb to the Slaughter

    Lamb to the Slaughter is a very powerful short story in that it is only nine pages, yet it still has the ability to get my brain flowing and creep me out completely. This story shows how a dedicated housewife can change into a cold blooded murderer and a psychopath in a matter of seconds. The strain to hold together a relationship is shown from the wife, Mary Maloney, in the first few paragraphs, but it’s incredible how fast one sentence can change someone into a psycho manipulator. It’s mindboggling to watch how Mary Maloney pieces together her murder and immediately covers her tracks so she isn’t a suspect in the murder.
