Notable muckrakers Jane Addams and Jacob Riis showed determination towards there being a change; each made sure to use their abilities to aid in not only a social way, but ask economically and politically, even to this day what they've done has made a massive impact.…

As the Middle East developed over the years, the prominence and teachings of Islam sustained. Numerous aspects in the Middle Eastern Empire altered, but a key element in the religion Islam that prevailed through the centuries was the Five Pillars of Islam, which were Shahada (declaration of faith to only Allah), Salat (prayer), Zakat (alms-giving), Sawm (fasting), and Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Hajj was an essential aspect in the religion of Islam and as the years progressed the importance of this pillar became more eminent in Islamic society. Each Muslim was expected to take a pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime and as the years progressed important Islamic figures began to promote this pillar even more by setting inns, mosques and Islamic institutes on the roads to Mecca. In order to make an argument contrary to the beliefs of many Americans, Karen Armstrong uses her biography Muhammad to portray Islam as a religion that was created simply to seek social change in a problematic time period. One central theme of the book is that at the time when Islam was created, it was helpful, almost necessary to the people of 7th century Arabia, as their lives were undergoing a period of rapid change. In fact, one could even take away from Muhammad that the message of Islam could be appropriate in today’s society as well. In the early centuries of the Common Era, Trade was revolutionized in the Middle east.…

The Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and ultimately reflects many core Muslim beliefs. Through spiritual rebirth, the wearing of the Ihram garments, the acknowledgement of Allah 's omnipotency and the experience of following in Prophet Muhammad 's footsteps, adherents through the Hajj are able to reflect the Islamic beliefs of Jihad, Umma, Zakat, and forgiveness in their own lives. By this Muslims are able to become more intimate with Allah and his will, and are also destined to an afterlife in heaven by his side. Accordingly, those who do not complete the Hajj in their lifetime will be sentenced to an afterlife in purgatory. These consequences reflect how significant the Hajj is to an adherent.…

One of the religions that I find intriguing and chose to do an interview about is the Islamic religion. Known as Muslims the members of the Islamic religion originated in Saudi Arabia is the second largest religion in the world today. The founder of this religion was a man by the name of Mohammed. Mohammed was an orphan child his mother passed when he was two years of age and his father passed before he was born he was then raised by his grandfather who also passed and left him in the care of his son, Mohammed set out in search of the truth. Muslims are an organized religion they must adopt the five pillars of Islam which are five duties that each Muslim must commit to in order to be a Muslim. They also must pray five times a day each day and on Fridays they pray together in the Mosque, which is the Holy Temple that Muslims congregate at for worship. Islam is a monotheistic religion and they worship Allah. Mohammed was a prophet who came to bring the word of the holy Koran to the people so that they may find the truth in religion. From the interview that I conducted I found that Mohammed was a peaceful man who sought the truth. Not all Muslims are bad and those who terrorize people are known as extremists. Mohammed himself went to extreme measures to gain followers for this religion, his life story is important to Muslims because he brought the word of God and his teachings and sayings are recorded in the Hadith. The Five Pillars of Islam are five duties that all Muslims must live by in order to be a Muslim – Shahada: The declaration, Salat: Prayer, fasting Sawm: Ramadan, Zakat: charity, Hajj: journey to Mecca at least once in your life if you are healthy enough and your finances permit you to.…

Islam's development has resulted from major political, economic, and military effect both inside and outside the Islamic world. The Umayyad aristocracy viewed Islam as a religion for Arabs only. Islam spread quickly during 750-1258 the era that they call The Golden Age. Muslims believe that Allah revealed the Qur'an to Muhammad who was thought to be God's final prophet, and regard the Qur'an and the Sunnah, the words of Muhammad, as the basis of Islam. Islamic tradition says that Judaism and Christianity have distorted the messages of these prophets throughout time either in interpretation. Allah (God) is one and indivisible. They believe in monotheism. "Allah" means God in Arabic God is the one True Creator. The Muslims, like Christians, believe God has always existed and there was no one before him and he will exist forever; he has hold over life and death. Appreciating past events, and, retreating to it, are two different actions which should be distinguished. To think about the past for nostalgia is completely normal, though, to use it for the purpose of escaping the current day is destructive. Arthur Miller’s play; “Death of a Salesman”, exhibits the repercussions of denying the present reality, which prompts the individual to dwell upon the past for contentment, eventually leading to utter devastation.…
