“Period of Eye” Michael Baxandall was a British art historian of the twenth century. In 1972 he published a book called “Painting and Experience in Fifteenth-Century Italy” which established his reputation as one of the best historians of the new art history. The book examined the Italian Renaissance period as social history. Baxandall claimed for a visual anthropology, and he explained how the style of painting in any society reflects the visual abilities and habits that developed through their daily life.
