The Last Supper Tintoretto

Last Supper – Jacopo Tintoretto
The painting I have selected for my second project is the Last Supper made between 1592 and 1594 by Jacopo Tintoretto. I picked this piece of art for many reasons. When I first saw this painting I was immediately attracted to it because of the detail that went into every person. Every person seems to have their own personality and emotion. Although you are immediately drawn to Jesus Christ in the middle of the painting because of the contrast between the light and dark, you are also drawn to the darkness in the back. The time and detail put into this painting is pretty amazing.
I think that there are a lot of aspects to this painting which are worthy of writing about. Obviously,

The wing that I felt most interested in was the 17th & 18 th Century pieces. Biblical subjects were the usual subject of these pieces and the quality and vividness of the art caught my eye with each new design I saw . A piece that was very interesting was "Martha Rebuking Mary for Her Vanity" done by Guido Cagnacci . The oil painting shows a distraught Mary Magdalene deserting vanity in order to drive out the demon. At the top of the picture is an angel striking out a demon away in order to allow Magdalene to repent for her sins . Another religious piece that I enjoyed was the "The Birth of St . John the Baptist" done by Bartolomé-Esteban Murillo. The image was of a baby John the Baptist being attended to by nurses while angles descend onto the scene . Also shown in the image was Elizabeth resting in a bed.…

During the Italian Renaissance, paintings became more realistic. Many artists studied anatomy. The major themes of paintings during this time were religion and mythology. A lot of paintings depicted scenes from the Bible. A new concept that developed during this time in Italy was linear perspective. This helped the artists to realistically show space. Oil paint was also introduced during this time. An example of an Italian Renaissance painting is “The Last Supper” by Leonardo da Vinci. True to the Renaissance, this painting was of a religious scene and featured realistic figures. Like in many of his paintings, da Vinci carefully rendered the lighting to create the atmosphere. In the front of the painting, where the disciples are seated around Jesus, there is more light. The rest of the room is dimmer and more shadowy.…

I think that artist don’t have to create so many beautiful pieces to make us remember it but to make it a history instead. Making their great pieces into history can give other generations some ideas of what had happened in the past and they should stop and observe every event that might be occurring on the painting. Pieces of work that artist make should be for our enjoyment and to remember what happened in the past and in this era. An example would be Altar to the Chases High School, 1987. (pg.59)…

Salvador Dali drew the picture“The Sacrament of the Last Supper”in 1955. This painting has quite a bit of emotion as you look and see how the apostles are kneeling. Lot's Daughters

The artwork I selected is Lot & Daughters by Orazio Gentileschi. The piece is on display at the Getty Museum and was painted in 1622. This piece is a dynamic, wonderful example of the baroque style. Gentileschi’s strong use of chiaroscuro makes the painting seem to be a living scene being viewed from the other side of a window. His use of the three primary colors for the three subjects clearly defines each of them; while still creating color harmony. The subject matter is the story of the city of Sodom from the book of Genesis. Lot and his family are saved by God as He destroys the evil inhabitants of Sodom. Lot’s wife is turned to a pillar of salt when she turns back to the city, leaving only Lot and the girls as survivors. Having no faith that their lineage will continue, Lot’s daughters get him to drink wine (as the flask and goblet on the left side of the painting elude to) and each lie with him in order to get pregnant. They each have a son and the lineage continues even to include David and Jesus.…

The Last Supper by northern European artist, Peter Paul Rubens is created on an oil painting. Ruben’s Last Supper is also one of the only five painting created during the flemish baroque. Ruben’s Last Supper was creating in the flemish baroque style. Rubens was commissioned by Catherine Lescuyer to work on this Last Supper as a commemorative piece for her father (American Pink). The purpose is to commemorate Catherine’s dead father, so Rubens makes this work as part of an altarpiece in the Church of St. Rombout in Mechelen (Rubens). But, Ruben’s first attempt working on this work is fail in 1611, due to his patron, Catherine Lescuyer regrets at the last minute, the reason people guess is because he asks a such high price of 4,000 Guilder back…

In this essay you will be comparing and contrasting two different types of paintings. The same subject matter but different ideas of the same subject. I will be writing about The Last Supper, which was painted by Giampietrino, after Leonardo da Vinci. He used oil on canvas while painting the piece of art. The year that Giampietrino painted this picture was in 1520. Another work of art that I will be writing about will be The Last supper by Francesco Fontebasso. He painted this picture in 1762 using oil on canvas. As you can see from both types of arts, that they were both painted on oil on canvas and both have the same subject matter which is the last supper that Jesus Christ had. To both of these painting’s in person, you can go to the Royal academy of Arts in London to see the Giampietrino piece and Fontebasso’s piece is found in Museum Fund of the State Hermitage in St Petersburg.…

In history there have been many different art styles and periods that reflect these various styles. One such period was the Renascence, in this period of art; European artist used many revolutionary techniques for the first time. For example, one technique developed in this period was linear perspective. Linear perspective is one of the foundations of modern art as it helps to give the artwork the appearance of having depth. Furthermore, another aspect that one can see in Renascence style art; is the subject matter. Renascence art often have depictions of religious matters. According to a monk who is said to have witnessed “Leonardo da Vinci’s when he was painting this artwork stated that da Vinci had stood before the painting platform of The Last Supper with a paintbrush in his hand from sunrise till sunset examining and criticizing his own work” (Totally History the Last Supper Comments). This displays the amount of contemplation that went into his painting. Leonardo da Vinci used an experimental technique when he painted The Last Supper. Instead of applying the traditional manner of fresco painting, da Vinci painted on a dry wall to attain a more complex palette. This technique displayed da Vinci’s style of work. He took three years to complete this painting, but only decades later the painting started to deteriorate. The humidity hitting the wall had exposed the painting to many risks. The moisture on the wall caused portions of the surface to lift up and the vibrations from the Allied bombing missions almost caused the wall to fall. The painting was saved by numerous people who have been caretaking and attempting to restore it ever…

    The Last Supper

Other paintings of the Last Supper have been created, but Leonardo Da Vinci’s is the most famous of them all. The scene shows us figures in a rectangular room with coffers on the ceiling and tapestries on both sides of the room. The room terminates at three windows and through the window we can see into a beautiful landscape setting. The landscape in the background sort of terminates in a kind of misty, grayish horizon. This painterly device, in which the horizon’s colors become more dull and colorless, is often known as aerial perspective. Renaissance artists to create the illusion of depth in landscape scenes used this. As far as the…
