The Last Templar Khoury

The last templar is a suspense, mystery novel written by Raymond Khoury in 2005. The book was his debut work and was on the New York Times bestseller list for 22 months.

The medieval city of acre stands in flames as the enemy forces occupy the city. Only a small band of templar knights manage to escape the city on a ship with a secret destination. The ship however disappear without a trace. The knights also carried a mysterious chest with them who they were given to by their master, the leader of the order.
Some thousand years later in modern day New York, a great exhibition about Catholic artifacts is held for everyone interested to come.

They have conflicts but nothing that really stands in the way of something and all their problems seems to be a bit too perfectly placed and most often they just go away. An example would be how the main character Tess in the beginning of the book struggles to find evidence that supports her theory of the museum heist. She has to find and talk to lots of different people to find information. A bit later in the book she just has the luck to bump into the exactly right person that she need to speak to for further information. This happens several times.

I think that the message of the book is somewhere along the lines of following your dreams and how hard work pays of. The main characters have in common that they all live simple lives with not much luxury, either because they work with their dream job or because they can’t work with their dream job. This simple way of life combined with their dreams is what makes the story. Without this the story could not take place.
