The Lazy Generation Summary
In this article by Ross Pomeroy and William Handke, the main idea is The Most Entitled Generation Isn’t Millennials, It’s Baby Boomers. It runs through a basis where the Baby Boomers are the ones who ruined the economy, following the Great Recession. Surviving in a time were economic stability is not guaranteed, Millennials still have to live with many excessive policies that are continuously imposed by lawmakers, the majority of them falling in the Baby Boomer generation. With the concentration on issues that don’t matter as much in the America we are evolving to, such as tax cuts to corporations, the rest of the issues that are directly affecting this age get pushed back constantly. Millennials couldn’t be the ones entitled in a world where the Baby Boomers run every decision on the opposite way of change. …show more content…
Many of the issues stated in the above article do not directly affect me, seeing that I don’t pay taxes or have the ability to vote yet. However, this does not mean that political issues on a wide scale do not affect me. Already, Gen Z is being labeled as the “The Lazy Generation” and it seems so wrong to me. When do we have the opportunity to be lazy when all we worry about in high school is if we will even be able to pay for university? When do we have time to be sitting around all day when it is no longer a possibility to live on minimum wage as it was in the 1950’s and 60’s? There is no time for us to simply stop. How can we? When lawmakers in elected positions can’t do what’s the best for their people, so we must get involved. When the government is so polarized and the Congress has been the most unproductive in decades, how can we just think “what now?” There is so much criticism given onto the younger generations when every action is scrutinized in a negative light, and all the actions higher up are brushed away as if nothing

From a neutral perspective, the author possesses a definitive purpose but elicits wild generalizations upon the entire millennial generation, ultimately detracting authenticity and credibility as the author’s voice leaks into the article. Tyler is clearly well-versed in the subject and openly expresses her opinions as fact throughout her work; she smartly refrains from speaking in the first person, but with the inclusion of her opinions, she might as well use “I” in every argument. She begins the article with the inclusion that millennials have underdeveloped brains, are hopelessly reliant upon technology, and possess a cloud of over-attached parents. She assumes that this particular generation will wreak negative impacts on the workforce as she braces employers for the impending intrusion. For example, she opens her argument with youths’ inferiority. “Older generations that couldn’t wait to proclaim their independence can’t comprehend this generation’s need for parental guidance and influence” . The choice of small rhetorical choices ultimately guides the reader…

Many technological advances in the modern era has brought up the question whether or not that the current generation of people under thirty years of age should be deemed as the dumbest generation. The sources given lack the evidence needed to support the claim that those under age thirty are "the dumbest generation." The sources that are in favor of this make very logical examples depicting said claim; however, the author fails to support it using facts and statistics. The sources in which the author tries to disprove the claim utilizes facts and statistics from conducted experiments. This ratifies that the evidence given in these sources can deteriorate the original claim, proving that people under thirty are not the dumbest generation.…

Today I read two articles that have impacted my thought of the millennials era, those two articles are The Outsiders: How Can Millennials Change Washington If They Hate It? by Ron Fournier and Millennials: The Greatest Generation or the Most Narcissistic? by Jean Twenge. In the first article they really explained that this generation, the people of today are the ones that they younger people are more service oriented than anyone ever was. This is a great thing, but whats the link? Nothing actually. These young adults are going out and helping their community just because they want to help out not because they want a job in the government or politics. In fact they don't see politics or the government actually helping their community. They are…

White states in his article “Millennials in Search of a Different Kind of Career” that “There have been many labels thrust upon the Millennial generation, especially when it comes to their work ethic. The group has been called lazy, entitled, and spoiled – but at the same time the generation has also been heralded for its collective innovation and desire to work for something other than money.” White goes on saying that older people said that their concern about their first job was to make all the money that they could. Today, the millennial generations are saying that they want to do something that they enjoy or to make a difference in…

In today’s modern world, technology has been the most popular and relevant commodity this generation has to offer. We have become equipped and dependent on computers, television, cellphones, and many more devices for entertainment and education. While a mass amount of people see technology as helpful in means of improving education, there are others who see differently. Many people throughout the years have been on the contrary about technology and what is has to offer to this generation. In the social critic Mark Bauerlin’s book, The Dumbest Generation, the title of his work suggest that us people under thirty are “dumbest” generation history has to offer. In America, it is your right to live the life you always wanted. This is the “American Dream.” As the years go by, this dream is fading away, causing millennials to have a major struggle as they mature as adults in the “greatest country in the world.” The concept of this “American Dream” is under a great deal of scrutiny as our economy drops yearly. It’s beginning to become harder to isolate yourself from the pack in this country, making it more competitive for the millennials. Statistics show children are more than likely going to have a better life than their parents. This shows the drive and positivity our country contains. With technology easily accessible throughout their lives, it is easy to say the Millennial Generation had it easy, and they did. They take for granted the ease of access and the quick flow of information, a thing unlike any prior generation. Some may even say that they abuse their use of technology by using it at inappropriate or unnecessary times. Next, the generation’s expectations are far too high when looking for a job. David Bass takes this side of the argument. Although a Millennial himself, Bass describes a generation forcing themselves into massive debt, and then blaming outside factors. “... many reasons for my generation’s predicament… a direct result of our own choices.” (Bass, 31). With low employment rates, the Millennial Generation would rather go into debt than finding a job. Millennials will go to an undergraduate school for a four degree. Afterwards, unsure of what to do, they will then go to graduate school amassing an even larger debt. During this time period, the Millennial Generation will have also gained a large credit debit, setting them even further behind. These “self inflicted wounds” force Millennials to move in with the parents as they can’t afford, or can’t function, on their own. With all the schooling behind them, Millennials hold a higher expectation in their future job force than what is realistic. With this false reality, Millennials might reject jobs they see as beneath them. It is due the unrealistic employment placement that makes the Millennials seem lazy. Is it entirely their faults,…

Whether or not today’s youth has really become the Entitlement Generation has been the focus of many debates over the past couple years. Those born in the mid 80’s and 90’s give off an aura of entitlement and this has raised many questions, including where is this idea coming from? Most believe it comes from the values and principles we were taught as children; however, some argue that the Entitlement Generation is learning their lesson. The great recession we are currently experiencing is teaching American teens to spend les, save more, and appreciate what they are given. The sense of entitlement is seen in many places, but mainly the workplace. New comers to jobs are asking for high pay and more…
