“Anansi”, the ancient mythology is rooted in West African folklore. He was a very clever trickster in shape of human before changing to a spider. Anansi considered to be the spirit of knowledge but getting the stories from the Sky God would not be easy and each time he got a command from the God, he was able to answer it although with some trick. His character was both legend and concerned the interaction between divine and semi-divine beings, animals, plants and seemingly inanimate objects. In the Anansi stories a human chosen by God became a spider because of his character. The lesson to the real world is the greed of people and facing the Karma in the world. Sometimes his tricks backfire. In my opinion, this shows that karma is working and there is some revenge or can be called Lessons of Life. The trickster couldn’t continue with the same attitude. In these stories Anansi bragging was growing tiresome. His interaction with Chameleon was kind of greedy person that want to come over his field, and also a jealous person who desperately wants the fabulous cloak. It’s obvious his jealousy worked as a karma and punished him for the wrong he did to get the Chameleon filed. The punishment from chief was not enough for him to stop juggling and he continues the same way of life. The last thing happen to him was the highest punishment that he as a human became a spider. In real world we should be clever to know not everyone are dumb or ignorant, there could be some people who will understand the trick or lie and that will turn the situation and all will go for awful result. In this story although Anansi persuades the king about the ram’s death but king’s wife explains him more logical idea about the incident which turned the judgment to the worst for Anansi. Anansi was the God’s chosen human, but became a spider. I think this is karma when hurting other people, and choosing offensive behavior then there will be some judgment in the real world. Overall after reading Anansi stories the myths and legends, the trickster had been tricked! Conceit and arrogance, just as humbleness and hard work, has rewards, each in its own way. Anansi was embarrassed. He went to hide in the corner and to this day you will see a spider hiding the corner of your
