The Life of Franz Schubert Franz Schubert was a brilliant Austrian composer. His full name was Franz Peter Schubert. He was on January 31, 1797 in Himmelpfortgrund, Austria and died on November 19, 1828 in Vienna, Austria. Franz wrote 600 lieder, operas, 7 masses, nine symphonies, liturgical music, and a large body of chamber and solo piano music. He was the fourth surviving son of Franz Theodor Schubert who was a schoolmaster. Franz mother Elisabeth who was a homemaker. Franz had thirteen siblings whereas nine died in babyhood and only 4 survived including him. Franz had a love for music at a young age. When he was growing up he had such great talents. Some which includes playing the organ, piano, and violin. He was also great at singing. His father and older brother Ignaz instructed him on music while he was young. He was also enrolled in his father’s school. His father taught him essential violin lessons and brother Ignaz taught him to play the piano. After being in his father’s school for awhile Franz soon enrolled at Stadtkonvikt. There they taught young vocalist to sing. In 1808 he earned a scholarship. It was for a spot in the courts Chapel choir. He was soon called the leader of the choir. At Stadtkonvikt Franz was presented with symphonies by Joseph and Michael Hayden and Mozart. In 1812, Schubert’s voice broke which made him leave the college. He still continued his teaching with Antonio Salieri for three more years. By the end of 1813 Franz left Stadtkonvikt and went back home. There he enrolled at a teacher training college in Vienna. In 1814 he took a job as an assistant at his father’s school. As a young composer he had written numerous of piano works, symphony, string quartets, and a three act opera. His last three piano sonatas, where in C minor, A major, and B-flat major. Around 1822 Franz was having difficult times. His financial needs weren’t going the way it was supposed to and his friendships were going down the drain. His life
