The Lightning Thief By Rick Riordan
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is revolved around a demigod (half human half god) who tries to get back Zeus’ lightning bolt. Percy Jackson, a kid who doesn’t really like school (due to his ADHD) goes through many adventures, learning more about himself, his origin, his father, and what he has become involved in. He goes through this first adventure with Grover (his best friend during middle school), Annabeth (an intelligent girl in the same situation as Percy), and his sword-pen named Riptide. He begins his quest at Camp Half Blood, which is near New York. This camp houses, protects, and trains half bloods. More so, it teaches half bloods who they really are, what powers they have, and from what god their powers came from. After traveling from New York to Los Angeles, the Underworld to Mount Olympus, and back to Camp Half Blood, Percy discovers who really stole the two god’s unique items. …show more content…
Although Percy was once known as someone who appeared to not care about learning, he tries his hardest to make everyone aware that he will stick to whatever his goal is and that he will prove something of himself. The ending of this book kind of forces the reader to buy the next book because of the little cliffhanger that Rick Riordan is kind of known for including. How did Percy’s next year of school go? Does he stay in Camp Half Blood? Does he sneak out sometimes to see his friends there? Does he sometimes click the wrong pen and make a hole in his pants? These are some of the questions that Riordan leaves his readers

In the story, Percy starts out to be a troubled kid to humans but actually, acts that way because he’s half-blood. For example, Percy has dyslexia because it's mine is hardwired to ancient Greek instead of English, and his ADHD so he can be impulsive during a battle to stay alive and his senses too. This confirms his mental illnesses were to keep him alive as a half-blood. As the story progresses, Percy is welcomed into Camp Half-Blood knowing who he really is now,but found out what other people think of him.For instance when Chiron tells Percy about the big feud with his dad and Zeus about the missing lightning bolt that was taken from Zeus on page…

Percy’s change didn’t happen overnight though; it took him the course of the book for his true colors to show. Beginning the book off, Percy has a negative view on life; he thinks that thanks to his ADHD and dyslexia he's going to amount to nothing at life. Little does he know at the time that these two things are his greatest strengths. He finds this out later in the book when he says “I now understand what Annabeth had said about ADHD keeping you alive in battle. I was wide awake, noticing every little detail”. Another thing that that changes throughout the book is the fact that Percy gets stronger and starts to realize that he is indeed very important, so important that Percy is once told that “The Gods have big plans for him”.…

References to Greek mythology pervade much of popular Western culture, and although some allusions may go unnoticed for those without a background in mythology. The study of classical mythology is not a standardized, widespread component of education, and thus there is a gap in understanding of these references for many people. One book that sought to popularize Greek mythology amongst young students was Rick Riordan’s The Lightning Thief, which topped the children’s bestsellers lists just under ten years ago. Percy Jackson, a teenager living in New York City, is the protagonist in this novel and embodies the Greek hero Perseus in his relationship with his mother and the quest on which he embarks. While any competent reader can understand the…

How do the kids stay safe? They head to Camp Half-Blood, where Dionysus, the God of wine, helps train the kids in the ways of half-bloods, those who are half-human and half-God. My favorite part of the book is the opening. It directly addresses the reader, inviting those who read the book to imagine this world as a part of their own. Like Hogwarts, the camp is divided into different sections of students, and these factions war with one another. They are, of course, based on who your Godly parent is. When Percy first arrives at the camp, he has no idea who that could be. His father never stepped…

I recently read The Trails of Apollo, which follows Apollo after Zeus turns him into a human by the name of Lester Papadopolous. Now a lanky teenage boy lacking the powers or looks of Apollo, the god of the sun, archery, and music, Lester finds himself thrown into a warzone when he arrives at Camp Half-blood. Campers have been going missing, including those of his children whom he has had a chance to bond with. Petrified, the camp expects as much from him as they do from all gods, and Lester slowly realizes just how useless he’s become, vowing to never shoot a bow or play music until he’s a god again. Lester, however, doesn’t give up, and goes on a journey to find his kids, facing betrayal and pure misery along the way.…

Before I knew it I was on to the last book in the series. The Percy Jackson books are about Greek mythology, and mythology is actually one of my favorite kinds of literature. This book series is kind of like a dream come true and it also inspired me to look into Greek history a little bit more, which showed me amazing books such as The Iliad or Odyssey which I read later in my life. The author of this book series, Rick Riordan, also wrote other series of books about other kinds of Mythology like Roman, Egyptian, and Norse. I have also read these other books but this series really spoke to me and really affected my literary…
