The following year, my class covered a unit in Greek history, where we read a simplified version of The Odyssey. My fascination with Greek culture and traditions grew as I continued to study and learn more about their lifestyle and legends; I sketched and wrote

In The Odyssey written by Homer and translated by Richard Lattimore, several themes are made evident, conceived by the nature of the time period, and customs of the Greek people. These molded and shaped the actual flow of events and outcomes of the poem. Beliefs of this characteristic were represented by the sheer reverence towards the gods and the humanities the Greek society exhibited, and are both deeply rooted within the story.…

Although most assume Death looks like the Grim Reaper or a scary skeleton thing, in The Book Thief, Death is not. In fact, he even tells us what he looks like when he says, “I do not carry a sickle or a scythe. I only wear a hooded black robe when it’s cold. And I don’t have those skull-like facial features you seem to enjoy pinning on me from a distance… Find yourself a mirror while I continue” (Zusak 307). Essentially Death is saying that because all humans die, we all resemble death. Humans can and will die, and thus he is one of the things that is constant between all humans. Due to this reason I drew a man looking into a mirror to show Death. I just…

Everyone is great in their own way, even those who may not realize it or appreciate it. In the end, your worth will show in some way. In the book, The Lightning Thief, I thought I that it was about a boy named Percy who has dyslexia and ADHD that always gets into trouble. Then, Percy learns that his dad is the sea god Poseidon. Afterwards, Percy finds out that Zeus has accused him of stealing his lightning bolt. Now, Percy must go on a quest with his new friends to find Zeus's lightning bolt so that there isn't another world war. He also wants to save his mom who has been taken to the Underworld. Now, I think Rick Riordan is trying to teach us that everyone has great worth, even those who feel different and unappreciated.…

Tom wondered for what seemed to be the millionth time why Dectives were required to dress like wall-street bankers or stock analysts. At least that was the expectation in public, however the moment he had the office to himself, he unknotted his tie, slipped off the linen suit jacket, and undid the top button of his shirt, then sat back in his chair, raised his eyes to the ceiling, and tapped the tip of a ballpoint pen against his teeth. That was Tom's usual mode of concentration and contemplation, and so intent was the man's focus on the new case that all else slipped from his mind, even the recollection that he'd texted his wife. Therefore, the sudden familiar sound of her voice, accompanied by the enticing aroma of barbecue, startled him, and he immediately shot upright. The sight of Lila elicited a smile that only widened with the greeting and kiss. "Sorry baby."…

In Unit 4 I have learned many things about myths and rituals, the story of Epic of Gilgamesh, and the stages of the hero’s journey. These three things benefited me in different ways. I did not know anything about myths and rituals and going over the questions that you assigned in class helped me. The questions made me realize what kind of person I am. It made me answers about my rituals, and asked me about my myth opinions. It also talked about my favorite fairy tale and a mythology story that I can relate too. I am glad that you asked me these questions, because now I can tell other people about them and ask them also. Another thing that we discussed in this unit was the story of Gilgamesh. That story was interesting to me, because I have…

People have been attempting to define the word "hero" for as long has man has existed on this planet. To define a hero one must first appreciate that there are many different types of hero 's.
