In the story “the Little Mermaid” by Hans Christian Anderson and Disney’s The Little Mermaid a young sea princess who had just turned 15 years old was out sitting on a rock watching the moonlight. Watch as the story unfolds and changes during the course of video production. Disney had changed the characters emotions from the story. In the story the mermaid was very quiet and independent. For example, the mermaid says “why have not we an immortal” saying it in mourning tone as if she, were depressed. In the movie the mermaid was very energetic, adventurous, and joyful. To demonstrate in some parts of the movie she was singing and swimming happily. In addition to attract a younger audience, Disney removed many violent images from Anderson’s original story. In the story the witch ends up cutting of the mermaids tongue. For example, the mermaid had wanted to be with the prince. So for that to be accomplished the witch had to cut it off out of despite. So she would not be able to speak or sing. In the movie the mermaid had lost her voice by singing. Disney had made these changes because they did not want the movie to be brutal to children. The final example is the changes Disney made. The changes made were Ariel’s feelings and conflict within the story. To demonstrate Disney had

There are some movies that are adapted from the novel such as Harry Potter, Da Vinci Code, Twilight Saga, The Hunger Games and Lagenda Budak Setan. What are the differences between watching a movie and reading a novel? There are some contrasts between the two actions. One of the differences is by watching a movie, you just need to sit and relax. It is very easy since you only need to watch it and understands it. Furthermore, you can watch the movie while doing something else such as eating or exercising. You do not really have to focus like to imagine how the atmosphere is in the movie at that time or how a person is walking down the streets. Lastly, you can avoid disbelief since it is a multi-sensory experience. On the other hand, by reading…

This can be seen as a push for feminism in the movie because it doesn’t focus on her being because she’s a girl. Also it changes how things are normally executed in fairytales. Some examples include Tiana rescuing Naveen, the princess also being changed into an animal, Prince Naveen being a playboy and they changing into a hard worker, and Mama Odie who says to think about your wishes and if that’s really what you want. These are probably introduced into the movie because Disney is looking to find a prompt that will make people watch and buy the movie. Viewers want to have a role model that will be a good example for small children and make them change themselves for the…

I do agree that Disney does follow a lot of the Gender stereotypes. In Disney, Women have to be really skinny and white to be beautiful, which is not true they focus on outer beauty and not inner beauty. They are teaching little girls beauty is being white and skinny that is resulting in an image and standards set for girls. I totally disagree with that and think Beauty should vary and not be just be white and skinny. In "The little Mermaid" many stereotypes are involved involving Ariel and her prince. They teach the idea of changing who you are to be with someone and not following the idea of "being yourself". They teach the idea that women are submissive. I think symbolically it even goes deeper to say that women give up their voice to be…

that there are many forms of adaptions and different directors or producers will have their own unique perspective on it. Hutcheon explains that,“They use the same tools that storytellers have always used; they actualize or concretize ideas; they make simplifying selections, but also amplify and extrapolate, they make analogies; they critique or show their respect, and so on” (Hutcheon 3). Hutcheon then goes on to use The Little Mermaid as an example. The Little Mermaid was adapted into a musical, however the musical not only told the story but also changed certain…

Imagine if a Disney movie and horror movie were compared, they would almost be identical if you followed Joseph Campbell's theory. The reason this is true is because Campbell's theory consist of three main components: departure, initiation, and the return. A Disney movie such as The Little Mermaid follows the Hero’s Journey because Ariel, the main character of the story, was born as the youngest mermaid princess out of her other siblings. Later on, she wanted to become a human to marry a prince that she fell in love with, and then decided to stay living on land while being married to her prince named Eric.…

They have [lots which everyone knows and Disney writers have adapted to suit today’s society. In Aladdin, Princess Jasmine isn’t only a “girl” expecting to be married off. She has her own string personality and demands the right to choose whom she’ll marry. She also helps Aladdin overcome the evil Jafar, so that they can “lice happily ever after.” However, it is in Beauty and the Beast that the most powerful changers to the fairy tale have been made. Belle is definitely the star of this movie, and again she’s not a week little girl. In the movie, Belle is a more fully woman who respects education more than good looks, she really despises the “macho” Gaston. Gaston is an addition to the original fairy story and this character really modernizes the plot. Though Gaston, the movie is able to make us think about “jock” behaviors, mob violence, and propaganda. It’s critical of all of these things. Beauty and the Beast has a moral that Aladdin doesn’t. It’s more than a story. This is the real difference between the two movies. Beauty and the Beast shoes how powerful and fragile love is. Even my little brother knew that this movie showed us that real love is for what a person is and not what a person looks like. He could see that the Beast became a handsome Prince only because he and Belle loved each…

All of this being said, the story as a whole still has the same overall theme and portrays the same meaning in both versions. Although there may be few aspects of the Disney story that could have been kept the same as the brothers Grimm version, I think that some of the changes made were definitely for the better. It is also true that there are many other differences and similarities that were left out; but I feel as though these are some of the more drastic and important…
