The Living Dead Girl Analysis
“The living dead girl” The first main characters name is Alice, this is a five year old girl. She is stolen away from her family and friends at the local playground. She was stolen by a man called Ray, which is the second main character. This is the horrible man you took this five year old little girl away from her childhood. He makes her life a living hell, the only thing he is concerned about is keeping her looking like a little girl forever, keeping her below 100 pounds. He renames all of his victims Alice and they all had blond hair and blue eyes, Ray killed a 9 year old girl because she started to develop into a young lady. I myself have learned a lot from this book even though it sounds more like a horror story, I have learned that you can be mature and grown up at the age of five. Not everyone lives there life to the fullest, when they should. Alice had her whole childhood taken from her and she jumped in front of a bullet to save a girl she didn’t even know, even though that was her ticket out. She didn’t want another childhood ruined because of her. She had a lot of time through the years to just sit and think about life and not once did she say “why me?” she was strong and took the beatings not because of fear but so her family wouldn’t suffer from a fiery death. I look back and try to make the best out of my days because you know I can eat whatever I want every day and I can leave my house and talk to people and I can have a life, Alice

The movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon and based upon the original book, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, by Jesse Andrews. The film features Thomas Mann (Greg), Nick Offerman (Greg’s dad), Connie Britton (Greg’s mom), RJ Cyler (Earl), Olivia Cooke (Rachel), and Molly Shannon (Rachel’s mother) as its main characters. The movie can be divided into two parts; the first is when Rachel is diagnosed with cancer, meanwhile she stays strong-minded and positive. The second part occurs when Rachel can no longer remain hopeful through her treatments and essentially leaves herself to die. The movie may not be your typical “cancer love story” but in its entirety it has an amazing plot and contains a very beneficial use of voiceover.…

The Grotesque Old Woman, by Renaissance painter, Quinten Metsys illustrates an old and unattractive woman of the 16th century. Her voluptuous, weathered breasts are on displayed and her headdress is one of astute fashion of an earlier German period and her eloquent dress and corset are fashionable to Italy in this time period. Her aged hands hold a small and delicate red bud, a symbol of engagement, and her slightly lifted chin is of poised position. All of this beauty and detailed is over shadowed with the features of a rather controversial “ugliness.”…

“Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl” by Jesse Andrews is about a boy, Greg, and his friend, Earl. Greg likes to credit himself to “not being friends with anyone”, saying he is friends with all of the groups. However, there is one thing that makes Greg and Earl real friends, their love of film making. In the beginning of the story, Greg learns that his old friend, Rachel, is sick with leukemia. To try and “cheer her up” Greg begins to visit her, and they become great friends. Since Greg is such great friends with Earl, he decides to introduce them. Things start off rocky, but eventually they all become friends. One day Rachel and Greg begin talking about the films that he and Earl make, she asked to see one but he, of course, rejected that idea. Even…

In the film Night of the Living Dead there were many unimaginable, grotesque things that are taking place throughout the film. We know that people are afraid of two things, death and the unknown. Johnny began by badgering his sister, Barbara just like he did when they were children by saying “they’re coming to get you Barbara” while visiting their father’s gravesite. This shows that Barbara, even as an adult, she is afraid of the unknown. Unbeknownst to Johnny, Barbara was actually attacked by the unknown. Johnny jumps on “the thing” to protect his sister. This is the first sighting of a “thing”. The sighting of the thing connotes fear and death. Barbara runs off and finds safety in a house not far from the graveyard. Barbara meets Ben when he enters the house for safety as well. The house is another connotation of safety and warmth. Ben jumps right in to protection mode because Barbara appear to be in a state of shock due to the gory sighting of “the thing” and its attack on her brother.…

    Girl Interrupted Analysis

Soaked, little, and naked is how the viewer finds Susanna in the middle of Girl, Interrupted. Or rather, soaked, little, naked, and hysterical. A state James Mangold utilizes to further illustrate his message. The film serves as a vehicle for Mangold to discuss madness and the society it exists within. Valerie, the asylum’s registered nurse, throws Susanna, the film’s suicidal protagonist, into a tub filled with water in order to snap Susanna out of her depressed state. Susanna lashes out at Valerie with every hurtful vulgarity she has within her. Despite this, Valerie remains calm and collected. In this interaction between Susanna and Valerie, madness is portrayed in its most basic form; it is an ongoing battle between the individual and the environment surrounding it. The individual is a victim of his environment, overwhelmed into regurgitating the detritus surrounding him that are readily filtered and suppressed by those deemed sane by society.…

Throughout the 1960’s the majority of the news was focused on death. Throughout the 60’s multiple assassinations occurred as well as the start of the Vietnam War. Employment rates were dropping and the nation was in turmoil. The nation’s people were afraid of death and likely began seeing it as unavoidable. They had lost a president and a Civil Rights Leader and many had family and friends who were sent to war. It probably seemed that everyone was doomed and no one was invincible.…

The first lesson I read from this book was to believe in others. In the book Fiver is a runt rabbit whose name literally means "Little Thousand". As a seer, he has visions and very strong instincts. Fiver is apparently supposed to be one of the most intelligent rabbits in the group. His personality is quiet and intuitive, and though he does not directly act as a leader, throughout the story the others listen to and follow his advice. Fiver is the one who receives the frightening vision of his warren's imminent destruction. He and his older brother Hazel go to the chief and try to warn him of his vision. They have no luck as the chief refuses to listen to Fiver. Later in the book the warren does end up being destroyed. I will use this lesson in my life by accepting someone’s worries or dangers, trust what people say, whatever their standings are, runt or pick of the litter. Especially when the outcome is as big as our town be demolished. This lesson teaches me to have belief in other people.…

The title of our zine is Fatal Femininity, which brings artistic awareness through poetry, comics, beautiful song lyrics, artwork, and empowering words from famous women. What we want our readers to know about our zine is that it strongly focus on the empowerment of women and brings up the issues dealing with the conformity of women (i.e, how society tells us how we are supposed to act and dress). Our zine shows images, and artwork of how women do not need to conform to society, but instead be whoever the hell we want to be. The first page of our zine we have poetry by Maya Angelou called phenomenal women, which uses aesthetic and rhythmic qualities of language explaining how remarkable women are and how women are in control of themselves. On the second page, we have a comic…

But i learned that sometimes you just have to pull the trigger to kill your demons so somehow allow you to sleep better at night knowing there is nothing to worry about. This is important because it shows the difference of becoming what some people want you to be and to being your own person independent through law and all. This book taught me a lesson because my life is at a loop every day and it doesn't change unless i am the one who changes it and gives it…

Justice isn't really about “getting even” or experiencing joy in retaliation, rather it is about righting a wrong that society would agree is morally culpable. Revenge possesses a selfish quality: arrogance, vindication, ruthlessness. Revenge shall not be confused with justice; however, societal standards have allowed these two to become false inverses. As seen in numerous novels, poems and theatrical productions, characters interpret justice as revenge and revenge as justice— so does society.…

There are some many stories in this book of women being abused and belittled, which would have made me give up reading it if it had not also had some of the most inspiring stories. Many of these women never gave up. They could easily have let death take them or succumb to the lives they were forced into but they didn’t. We have all heard stories about sex trafficking and how women are treated in these countries but this book brings the tragedies into the spotlight unlike any book I have ever read before. I know that my problems seem small compared to these women and young girls but this book has given me hope that I can overcome my own problems. It definitely teaches a lesson that hope is never truly lost as long as you do not give up.It also shows that evil never really wins.…

This book taught me about hope because despite Vivian’s struggles throughout the book, she had pride, and something good came out of the bad events. For example, Vivian went through being enslaved, being sexually assaulted, and being neglected for the younger years in her life. But after all those unfortunate events she found the love of her life, Dutchy. This shows that bad events happen so the good events can eventually happen. Now, when something bad happens to myself, I feel hope afterwards,…

    Girl Interrupted Analysis

Girl, Interrupted (1999) directed by James Mangold is largely based on a semi- autobiographical book by the same title. The movie chronicles eighteen year old Susanna Kaysen’s experiences surrounding her stay at a mental institution. It is 1967, a time of social change and unrest. Susanna makes a half-heart attempt at suicide, ingesting a bottle of aspirin and chasing the pills with a bottle of vodka. She is taken to the emergency room, her stomach is pumped and she survives. Afterwards she meets with a psychologist who explores her more recent feelings and experiences. The psychologist concludes, with her parents assent, that she would benefit from a stay at Claymore, a private mental institution. The next year and nine months forever alter her life. When Susana arrives at Claymore, she is immediately introduced to a completely different lifestyle. Her daily schedule comes to include regularly conducted “checks”, sessions with a psychiatrist, and medication. To an outsider the patients seem to individually represent the stereotypical persons one would expect to find in an institution. Susanna’s roommate, Georgina, is a pathological liar. Polly, nicknamed “Torch”, had, as a girl, poured a flammable substance on herself and set herself on fire. Daisy has an eating disorder, an unhealthy, very sexual, relationship with her father and wishes to almost replace her mother in some circumstances. Janet has anorexia and has become addicted to laxatives. Cynthia is a lesbian. Lisa, whom Susanna comes to befriend and at one point seeks to imitate, is a psychopath. To Susanna these girls come to be her friends, support system and alternative, temporary family. Susanna is eventually deemed cured, no longer a threat to herself or others, and allowed to leave. Her stay had given her a better understand of others, altered her perceptions of what is and isn’t “crazy” and allowed for a sense of calmness and security to pervade her life.…

The accident that happened to Alice is what led her into writing this whole story. “I feel an incredible blow in my right eye. I look down long enough just in time to see my brother lower his gun. Both brothers rush to my side.” (Walker). This definitely is a vivid detail and giving you a picture of what ytjust happened just by the way she describes things. This accident took a toll on Alice and how people viewed her now. That’s what she was worried about at the time. People didn’t look at Alice the same “That girl’s a little mess” is what people were whispering behind her back.…
