The Longest Ride Analysis

Most people have heard of Nicholas Sparks, an inspiring romance author and the best-selling author of The Notebook and Dear John. On April 10, 2015, Nicholas Sparks’s movie The Longest Ride was released. The Longest Ride (figure1) is a romantic movie. Before the movie was released the romance novel The Longest Ride was published on September 17, 2013. The Longest Ride is not a typical Nicholas Sparks movie. There are two love stories being told but the bull riding brings a refreshing storyline to the movie. Also with the second love story it brings aspects from the 1940s. With all of this it brings balance to the movie, giving it an ability to reach many people. If you are a fan of romance movies, bull riding, and art then this is the movie
Throughout the movie there are different songs played. In one of the sense in the movie Sophia is driving and so is Luke. Sophia turns on her radio and begins listening to some up beat music and then changed the station, the song Oh, Tonight by Josh Abbott Band comes on. Luke is also listening to the same song on his radio. I love the song Oh, Tonight by Josh Abbott Band. The setting throughout the movie is beautiful. The movie is set in Black Mountain, North Carolina. Luke Collins lives in “gorgeous farmhouse out in the middle of nowhere with a stream running along the front side of the property” (Lamoureux) with his mother (see figure2). Luke and Sophia go on their first date in the “middle of the woods and features a beautiful lake with a stone wall and waterfall. It appears out of nowhere and is the perfect place for their romantic date scene” (Lamoureux). This setting is the original home of the Black Mountain College, a museum and art center that plays an important role in the movie. “Black Mountain College was founded in 1933 and was a new kind of college in which the study of art was intended to be the cent aril part of a liberal arts education” (Uprising Creative ). “Black Mountain is a small town nestled in the Blue Ridge range in the Southern Appalachians” (Uprising Creative ). For a romantic movie to be as amazing as this one, the two main role need to have chemistry between them. The two leads in this particular movie do have chemisty between them. There is a scene in the movie where Luke was teaching Sophia how to ride, this scene really exebited the chemisty between the two. Personaly, my favorite charator in this movie is Luke Collins (see figure3). Scott Eastwood plays Luke in the movie and he does a fantastic job of doing so. Scott has the “physicality to do the bull riding and the physicality to work on a farm, but to also have the charm” (Lamoureux). Do not get me wrong I do love the actress that plays the role of Sophia. Britt Roberson as Sophia does a amazing job of protraying a New Jersy girl, goal-orinted, and at the same time being very likeable.
