To be well liked that a being comes off as pleasing and manageable to be around. Others would get a sense of comfort when being around their leader. To not be liked is when one may come off as annoying, assertive, or just mean. Coming off as not well liked can also consist of not being real smart. Knowledge is a key trait to success and to be a respected leader. However, if one is not well liked, then others will not be able to take that person seriously. As perspective one states “An …show more content…
individual cannot maintain power if he is not well liked.” This is often true because those advocates of the leader may not take him/her seriously. This perspective also states “Rebellion often follows when people do not find their leader to be likeable.” I strongly agree with this statement. The people will not want to listen or agree with what he/she has to say when their leader is discomforting. one cannot achieve gaining the trust of others if that being is displeasing or intolerable Period. The individual would not be able to manage his group of people. Then he could not lead their group to success.
Rational thinking is a trait that really everyone should desire or need. It should be the necessity to everyone. I often see at school that the more intelligent students are often sought out by others for academic advice and are even well respected. Intelligence is the core to some of the greatest leaders. For example, former president Franklin Roosevelt had an IQ of 139.6 and graduated with a degree from Harvard University. Years after his graduation from Harvard, Roosevelt went to serve three terms in office and went on a 4th. This is the longest any president has ever served in the white house. Unfortunately Roosevelt died before he could fulfill his 4th term. Roosevelt was an amazing leader for the United States. He declared war on Japan. Forces were sent to bomb Hiroshima and Nagasaki which ended World War II. Great leaders are able to think rationally. Does that mean they are well liked? Perspective 2 states “The right decision may not always be the popular decision.” Although this statement is true, how would his/er group react when their wished or needs are not met? They will start to get flustered. Grow a displeasing feeling towards that leader. Retaliations will start to occur. They could throw their leader from his/her reign and bring in a more likeable leader to replace his/her predecessor. A leader that speaks rationally will not be more liked and affective rather than a charismatic and likeable one.
Having both traits can lead to an effective leader but can be also disliked by others.
There are many popular kids at my school who are also very intelligent. They are well respected. The third perspective notes “If a people can see that their leader is being rational, then they will express their loyalty to that leader.” I somewhat agree with this. Many people are underneath someone with power in one way or another. That person then looks up to that person for guidance or needs. When a wish or need it not met then those group of individuals will grow unhappy and grow a desire for a better situation. Sooner or later matters will be taken into their own hands. They may respect a rational decision here and there. But, if their needs are not met, then trust will start to diminish and relationships begin to break. A good leader needs to keep his group satisfied and content to
succeed.
While being rational is key to any leader, being well liked is important as well. When someone thinks rationally, they may not satisfy their group. If one is well liked by their group, then citizens or individuals will be at peace. With popularity comes success. With success comes peace.
