Lord of the Flies I believe the most important piece of literature we read this year is Lord of the Flies. Lord of the Flies addresses very significant notions such as whether the natural intention of humans is good or bad. It also addresses topics such as can human function in a society where the populous is consummated with 6-12 year olds. The book also shows how in the face of fear humans will do anything to survive. This piece of literature is important because it explains the essence of human nature. Lord of the Flies shows that the nature of humans, in particular innocent kids is good and bad, not exclusive to one. It shows this in its thoughtfully played out characters. Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon are each one of the main characters that individually display certain aspects of human nature. Ralph shows how humans are leaders and rational thinkers. Jack displays how conditions can twist your definition of morality if not exterminate it entirely. Piggy shows the kid in us, the creative aspect as well as the innovative aspect. William Golding shows us that kids cannot run a stable society run by kids. I believe that this shows us progression as we get older and changes to our identity.
