For example, when the Tamil’s demands were not met, the LTTE resorted to violence by attacking the Sinhalese, Tamil members of the police force, Tamil members and supporters of the ruling party, and Tamil politicians who did not support the proposed separate state. When the incidents of violence and riots increased, the Sinhalese-Tamil conflict attracted the attention of Sri Lanka’s neighbor, India. The international attention made the issue a lot more serious and gave the Tamils a bigger chance of not being at loss. With India trying to make peace between the Sinhalese and the Tamils, both sides would be fairly treated by outsiders who were on neither side, and the Tamils would thus have a bigger chance of obtaining their rights.
The LTTE was a help to the Tamil cause because their actions of showing their demands have led to the Sri Lankan government to take action. With the incidents of violence and riots causing unhappiness and trouble, the government had tried to end these by negotiating with the
LTTE to find a solution to the problem, instead of ignoring their demands and rejecting their ideas. The Peace Accord the Sri Lankan government had signed with India included for there to be a ceasefire between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan forces, and that Tamil-dominated northern provinces were to be merged with the eastern provinces. This has been beneficial to the Tamils as it helped them move closer to their goal of gaining their rights.

The armed conflict between the Sinhalese and Tamils in Sri Lanka has led to a war between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan government. It has troubled Sri Lanka for more than 20 years and has cost more than 60,000 lives. In addition, the conflict has also affected the country in other ways. All these that the LTTE has caused only brought more trouble and unhappiness between the Tamils and the Sri Lankan government. The impression of terrorists the LTTE gave also did not help to convince the Sri Lankan government that they deserved their rights.
