The Luncheon Prologue
By the time the luncheon started, the church service was already over. Clawd made sure to invite Heath after the service because he knew that someone like Heath couldn’t sit through something that long. Heath wasn’t the only Clawd had invited. Duece was arriving, too, but he’d brought someone with him.
“Did he have to bring her?” Clawnor whined to Clawd when Cleo DeNile entered the room. Clawd gave his little brother a look.
“Be nice,” he said sharply before going to greet Duece.
Cleo looked around the church when she walked in, scrunching up her nose. “This place could use a cleaning job. I mean, look at the- oh, no!!” she jumped, looking in disgust at the gum she had stepped in. “Oh, my Ra! Where am I!?”
Duece helped his girlfriend sit down

Before reading, “Lunch” by Matt Reed, i did not know that financial aid covered meal plans at universities. I think financial aid should consider doing something same for a community college. I support Redd’s plan for free or reduced meals at a community college. If you give students a certain amount of money to use each day and then it is gone, then it will help the government spend efficiently. I felt dejected after reading “For Homeless Students, ‘Education Was the Only Way Out’” by Kelly Field.…

Chapter II the Nightly Rendezvous at the Cemetery is an important scene in the novel because it’s the first time Catherine Sedgwick establishes a common ground between the Indians and the Puritans. In the novel, Hope is introduced to readers as a free- spirited, unconventional, and nonconformist character. The traits that Hope possesses in her character sets her apart from other Puritans. Although it may appear that Hope is different, her distraught reaction after hearing that her sister was married to an Indian man proves otherwise. Hope views her sister’s marriage “as if a knife had been plunged in her bosom” (188) this comparison allows readers to understand the pain and disappointment Hope felt towards the news. Sedgwick is also showing…

    Prologue: the Super-Story

¶1 I am a big believer in the idea of the super-story, the notion that we all carry around with us a big lens, a big framework, through which we look at the world, order events, and decide what is important and what is not. The events of 9/11 did not happen in a vacuum. They happened in the context of a new international system – a system that cannot explain everything but can explain and connect more things in more places on more days than anything else. That new international system is called globalization. It came together in the late 1980s and replaced the previous international system, the cold war system, which had reigned since the end of World War II. This new system is the lens, the super-story, through which I viewed the events of 9/11.…

Steinbeck writes the novel “Of mice and Men” using third person narrative to emphasise more of the characters feelings. Two migrant agricultural labourers, George, and Lennie have left their previous jobs in a hurry, following accusations of attempted rape. The reader discovers that George is short of stature, we can identify this at the front of the book, and throughout the novel ‘the first man was small’ also we find out that he is intelligent and projects self-confidence. John Steinbeck displays contrast between Lennie, is a giant of a man ‘a huge man’, ponderous in his walk and has the mind of a young child. Therefore, is dramatically effective as it leaves the reader uncertain about the situation as we think what do these different characters have in common, why are they together, are they up to something? The reader soon discovers that they have a very close bond. This is because they both share the same dream of owning their own ranch, after many hard working years, moving from ranch to ranch, living in complete poverty and working for next to nothing they finally try to achieve this life long dream. At the end of the beginning chapter Lennie pleads with George to tell him over and over again about their dream ranch, when Lennies main task will be the rabbits. Again Steinbeck shows how immature Lennie is, I think Geroge and Lennie have a bond which represent father and son. Geroge being the father not very patient always telling Lennie off and Lennie very childlike keeps rebelling.…

While most people take school lunch services for granted, not many people know that schools did not originally offer food service. In 1894 some schools in Philadelphia began to offer what was known as penny lunches, which began food services within schools, thanks to local charities. Soon nine other schools in the philadelphia area began to offer penny lunches and other services. In 1909 Dr. Cheesman opened a school or girls that is given credit for taking food services out of the hands of charities and into the hands of schools. He asked the philadelphia school board to ensure that schools would provide food services that provided adequate nutrition for children, and his experiment proved successful. Soon the program spread to many other schools helping many children across philly.…

Luckily, I only needed one proposal before my claim was approved. However, it did take quite a while due to thinking and rethinking the claim over in order to be certain that the proposal I wanted was the one which I really cared to presented. My claim, that students should not have an open campus lunch, was challenging to work with while making a visual. I knew how I wanted to display my message, but many times it wasn't giving off the vibe which I was hoping for. Personally, the proposal for me was the easiest part, I knew exactly the argument I wanted to make, and found it easy to put that into words. On the other hand, the visual portion of the essay was the most stressful. Most of my time was spent online trying to find the perfect pictures. Everyone says that the internet has so much stuff on it, just not the ‘stuff’ I needed to form my visual. My essay was backed by mostly facts and statistics. Through research I found it difficult to come up with statistics already on open lunch, so I was forced to be creative with how I pieced my puzzle together.…

The seven deadly sins can be easily committed by anyone unknowingly. Ever since humans came on earth, they have been immoral, shiftless creatures trying to find the easiest way out. But for ages, mankind struggled to also find a solution to help our spiritual needs and guide it in the right path. Thus, the concept of the seven deadly sins arose: gluttony, lust, pride, wrath, sloth, jealousy, and greed. If one carries on with life without committing a deadly sin, while being good from the heart and not just from the mind and actions, he/she will avoid the eternal damnation of hell. The Canterbury Tales: The Prologue, by Geoffrey Chaucer, contains pilgrims going to Canterbury, in which some of these pilgrims commit deadly sins. In this prologue, the Wife of Bath is guilty of lust, Franklin is guilty of gluttony, and the Pardoner is guilty of greed.…
