The story I want to analyze is called “The Man Who Loved Flowers”. This story is written by Stephen King – an American author of horror, suspense, science fiction and fantasy. The subjects I’m going to be focusing on are the genre, the plot, the point of view, the main character and the theme. But in the first part of this assignment I will start with this introduction and a summary.
The story, “The Man Who Loved Flowers”, takes place in New York. It’s about a man with an unknown name. It’s a beautiful day and the man is walking - bouncing through the streets. He looks very happy and handsome - almost like he’s in love and about to meet the love of his life. He has a certain look on his face like he is on a mission, but it changes to something cold when he reaches into his pocket. On his way to his checkpoint, he stops by a flower vendor. The vendor has a radio. In that radio there is a news reporter talking about a murderer on the loose. “The Hammer Murderer” the radio man calls him, and he has killed a young woman and dumped her in the river. The man talks a lot with the vendor, and they are also talking about this girl, Norma, that the man apparently is about to go meet. The vendor sees the romantic look in his eyes and recommends half a dozen of roses. In love, the man continues down the streets. A lot of people notice him as he walks by all love-struck. It gets dark and he turns into an ally. In the ally he sees a girl. He walks up to her and says that the flowers are for her. She looks confused – she doesn’t know who this man is. Then he remembers something – Norma died ten years ago. He pulls up a hammer from his pocket and he kills the girl. He passes on by thinking that one day he will find Norma, and she will be waiting for him. He calls himself Love as he is thinking of the woman in his life; Love, because he is never giving up on Norma, even though she is dead.
