The Mandela Effect is very confusing to a lot of people. For people that are confused "The Mandela Effect is a term for where a group of people all mis-remember the same detail, event or physicality" ("Mandela Effect Introduction"). The truth of The Mandela Effect is that it is all based around alternative imagery. The people that believe in The Mandela Effect normally do not have any evidence and is based solely on memory ("Mandela Effect Introduction"). The Mandela Effect is a very hard effect to escape. Not only is it related to alternative imagery, but it is also related to cognitive dissonance. The Mandela Effects are normally precise details about a very specific set of categories ("Mandela Effect Introduction"). They have a variety of names, "The French used to call their doughnuts pet de nonne, which means nan's farts"("41 Delicious Facts About Doughnuts"). The doughnuts has became very popular over the years. In fact, over 10 billion doughnuts are made in the U.S. Each and every year. Before trick of treating was created during Halloween people used to celebrate by bobbing doughnuts ("41 Delicious Facts About Doughnuts"). When the first doughnut machine was created the creator decided to give it a name, "The first donut machine was called the Wonderful Almost Human Automatic Donut Machine" ("41 Delicious Facts About Doughnuts"). This effect was named after Nelson Mandela, people remember him dying in prison in the 90’s rather than in 2013. Other examples of this effect includes the famous Berenstain Bears. Most people remember these fictional bear characters being named the Berenstein Bears. Famous movie lines have also seemed to change. “Mirror, Mirror on the wall…” a famous quote from the Evil Queen in Snow White seems to have changed to “Magic Mirror on the wall…” Also, one of the most famous movie lines of all time, in Star Wars, is also different than many remember. The famous line, “Luke, I am your father,” has been quoted hundreds of thousands of times. However, when you watch the movie, you’ll see that Darth Vader actually says, “No, I am your father.” Furthermore, Queen’s song, “We are the Champions” supposedly had the words, “We are the champions… of the world!” But re-listening to the song proves that there is no “Of the world,” at the end of the song.     It occurs when a person’s recall of episodic memories becomes less accurate because of post-event information. Research in this area began by Elizabeth Loftus in 1974. It was about the “ False Memories”. When the first collection of misinformation experiments appeared in the mid-1970s, the lesson that was being learned from these experiments was that misleading postevent information can impair memory of an original event ( Loftus, 1975 , 1977 , 1979 ). Memory Impairment Hypothesis- a genuine change or alteration in memory of an experienced event as a function of some later event. McClosky and Zaragoza ( 1985 a, 1985 b) disputed the memory impairment hypothesis. McCloskey and Zaragoza (1985), claimed that memory for an original event is not impaired by misleading postevent information. McCloskey and Zaragoza devised a test that excluded the misinformation as a possible response alternative, and they found no misinformation effect.
