It realizes that Victor’s death has not fulfilled its desire for peace after all. This shows, that the creature is anything but purely evil. In fact, the creature is incredibly kind and benevolent in nature as shown when he helps a group of peasants and rescues a girl from drowning. However, despite these good intentions and actions of charity, the creature is always met with beatings and rejections. Companionship is what the creature desires most and when Victor destroys its sole hope for a companion, the creature vows to exercise revenge on Victor.
