They were joined together by their disrespect for racism. Protesters took a bus from San Francisco to across the nation, just to participate in the Civil Rights Movement.
The March on Washington was for Jobs, Freedom, and the People. To most people they saw it changed the course of American History. Everyone from elders to teenagers, gathered around The Greyhound Bus for the cross country trip from San Francisco to National Mall in Washington, D.C.
Everybody from Jazz musician John Handy to Nancy Schimmel hated racial discrimination and inequality to others. People displayed racial discrimination in schools and occupations.
Navin was a white officer who worked in San Francisco. She joined the Civil Rights Movement a few months before it began. Navin wanted to help the people in the south so she moved to Texas. Before she went to Texas Navin took a bus trip on a one way journey to Washington, where she fell in love with the growing movement.
Martin Luther King Jr. and some young teens knew that everyone wanted a major change for American society. After that, they realized that the Civil Rights Movement actually turned out to be a Freedom Movement. The March on Washington brought together more than 200,000 people.
The people who rode the buses across the country to change history were very brave. They ended up making a whole lot of memories and accomplishments. In the end Navin said, “There have been big changes, but there are a lot more to go.
