in the beginning and he matures in the middle and at the end is mature and wiser. If you looked
back to the beginning and think about how Jonas acts at the end, you can see a big difference in
his maturity level.
The beginning of the book Jonas is still a child. He still has a lot of growing up to do,
even though he is a pretty responsible for his age. In the book they have volunteer hours, and he
spends his time in various places helping out. Also, he plays games with the other children. He
goes to school and does his school work like he is supposed to. Every morning in his family unit
he shares his dreams. He still fallows the rules. So this shows
he is not mature.
In the middle of the book he becomes more independent and becomes more mature and
less childish. He is given the job of receiver. The other children are still playing games and he
does not any more. In his rules as a receiver he is allowed to lie, so he starts to lie. Jonas is also
able to ask questions. He has started to make choices for himself.
At the end of the book he matures progressively. He is not the same, he has learned many
important things and has become wiser. The giver and Jonas watch a release and learns about
death. So he makes a plan to leave so everyone will know what he does. He takes Gabe away to
Glenn 2
save him from being killed. Love is something Jonas learns and how to love in the end. He
matures and became wiser.
Jonas changes so much in the book. The childish character you see in the beginning
changes. He becomes almost a new person. How he matures is similar to how we mature in the
real word. People mature in our world bye learning, the more they learn the more mature you
become. You see this in the book. The more Jonas learns about memories and life and love the
more mature he becomes. The big difference in the book and in real life is Jonas does all his
maturing in one year. In real life people take up to 18 years. This shows he has rapidly
progressed in his maturity.
