Did you know that 11 million people died in the holocaust? If this event didn’t happen, then many people’s lives today would be much different. The holocaust was a terrible thing. People were thrown in gas chambers just because of how they looked or what type of person they were. Jews were the main targets, because that’s what the leader insisted. Although many terrible things happened during the holocaust, there are still some people, still living today, that have escaped.…
In this book the author Tim O' Brien uses many different little stories to sum of the big picture of war. He focuses in on many different characters, stories, and their specific feelings to help the reader get an actual feel of what he felt. Which he states on pg. 171 " I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story-truth is truer than happening-truth". While O' Briens main connection to the title focus's in on what each soldier physically carried, deeper than that is the soldiers own feelings, doubts, and fears.…

Tim himself was a soldier fighting in the war who had survived. He writes the story fictionally but the names of the characters are of real people. The book is a series of short stories and the situation in the story reflects horror of the war. There are three areas of conflicts that occur in the stories which are physical, psychological and environmental.…
This is an excellent book to read. The Myth of Seneca Falls tells the story about the memory of the woman suffrage movement. Lisa Tetrault discusses how Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Stanton are the famed founders of the women’s movement. Not only does Tetrault briefly tell her readers about the real story of Seneca Falls, New York in 1848, she provides her readers with a narrative built on research. Readers become familiar with the story that spanned from the 1840s through the end of the century. It is a story of different organizations competing with one another, backed by separate agendas, along with a series of meeting and resolutions. Proving that not everyone always plays well together.…

Ernest James Gaines was born in Oscar, Louisiana on a plantation in 1933. Of African American heritage, he was a good sport with his family and understood that hard work was a necessity in life. At the young age of only nine he aided his parents in the field working for fifty cents a day. He looked up to his handicap aunt, Augustine Jefferson, as she was his role model in his early youth. She inspired him and opened his eyes to setting a strong path for the generations to come. His mother and step father uprooted and moved to California when Gaines was fifteen. This was a great opportunity for his passion to read and write since the public library was for all races. The lack of African American study or authors pushed him even more to fill the shelves with the history of his race. At seventeen he sent his first novel to a publisher, but this was soon rejected and sent back. Later in his life he rewrote this and sent it again. While attending San Francisco State College he wrote a short story that was published in 1956. Two years later after graduating he studied creative writing at Stanford University until 1959. Gaines has written many short stories, novels, and has won many of awards as well, including the National Books Critic Circle Award. He was given most of his attention from the public after he published Of Love and Dust in 1967. Four years later The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman declared him as a literary icon for American fiction.…

In the short story “The Things They Carried”, Tim O’Brien wrote about the experience of war and the feelings young soldiers felt during their long days of travel. During the story he keeps referring back to the things the soldiers chose to carry in their packs. Some of these items included necessity items like grenades and ammunition, but they also carry sentimental items like love letters and pictures. These items help the reader better understand each person for who they are and help us to understand the physical situation the soldiers are in. In “The Things They Carried”, Tim O’Brien describes the item the soldiers carry in their packs and the emotional weight they carry to help give a better understanding of each person.…
