In today's world, humanity is benefitting from the advanced machinery to make life easier and more efficient. However, before the humanity reached at this point in usage of advanced machinery, life wasn't easy as it is today. Throughout history people have always searched for efficiency in their production processes. Therefore, there are many time periods where knowledge and science are florished periodically. Chartism was a working-class movement that took place between 1838 and 1858 that sought politcal reforms for the working-class. It took its name from a national protest called People's Charter of 1838. The movement had started as gatherings in Birmingham, Glasgow. The movement stood against the income differences between the classes. Joseph Reyner Stephens described the movement as a "knife and fork, a bread and cheese question". "The principal aim of Chartasim was universal male suffarage"(Bossche, Mary Barton, Social Agency, and the Representation of Chartism).
