how they were captured and taken as slaves. Then, I will dive into the main topic of their journey across the Atlantic Ocean on the slave ships, and I will display the ill conditions they were forced to suffer through.
It all started when Europeans seeking riches set up trading forts on the West Coast of Africa and traded almost any good for slaves. Once they were bought or kidnapped, the slaves were underfed and put through deathly conditions. Not all African Natives survived the brutally long journey across the Atlantic Ocean through the Middle Passage. Slavers would load hundreds of slaves into cramped quarters on ships. Because of the amount of people and poor conditions disease spread rapidly throughout the ships. When the colonies were first up and running over two thousand slaves were shipped yearly to America.
