The Most Dangerous Game Setting Analysis
The setting of Richard Connell’s “ The Most Dangerous Game” is important to the plot. For example, an isolated island is harder to leave. The island is isolated which makes it impossible for the humans to escape because it is enclosed by sharp dark rocks and blue blood-warm ocean. The author says, “ And growling of the sea breaking on a rocky shore” (3). The rocks make it harder to escape and the ocean is too far from any land besides the island. Another reason why the setting is so essential to the plot is because Zaroff changes the channel to make big boats crash into the rocks. General Zaroff tells to Rainsford, “” They indicate a channel,”””he said, ‘“””Where there's none; giant rocks with razor sharp edges crouch like a sea monster with

In “The Most Dangerous Game”, the author uses many methods to develop the characters and how they see the world, themselves, and others around them. First, Rainsford gets stranded on an island after he is talking to a friend on a yacht he was on about how the hunter is dominant and how the animals hunted do not feel anything which could be foreshadowing a change in the story and what it’s based on. After he arrives on the island, Rainsford immediately goes and sees a sign of struggle in bushes and hears shots fired. This, and the way that Rainsford was able to follow the tracks of the hunter, shows that Rainsford is a fairly efficient hunter; that is, showing the audience what the main idea of the story most likely is, which the hunter vs. the hunted.…

Connell depicts the characters in The Most Dangerous Game as people who used to be sane but are now insane. While Rainsford is in being hunted by General Zaroff, he is slowly but surely turning into a lunatic in order to keep himself alive. Connell writes, “to this end, he had plunged along, spurred by the sharp rowels of something very like panic”(Connell 28). Connell highlights Rainsford’s transition in becoming deranged with “plunged along” and “spurred by the sharp rowells”. While he could have chose to stay sane, his mind got the best of him,…

In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” author Richard Connell uses foreshadowing to expose General Zaroff as a cannibal to readers. It is commonly believed that if you are in a position of power and authority you will always remain so. In his fictional short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell’s characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff, had the same opinion. Like many individuals, neither men ever expected to be placed in a position of weakness. The deadly conflict that led to both Rainsford and Zaroff hunting and being hunted developed the theme, “strength and power are temporary,” because two once powerful men suddenly fell.…

Authors use many literary elements, such as figurative language, to write out the theme of their stories. In the two short stories, “Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allan Poe and “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the themes are described by literary elements. “The Cask of Amontillado” is about a man trying to get revenge by tricking another man telling him about having expensive wine. “The Most Dangerous Game” is an eccentric short story about a General who lives on an island and hunts humans. As Donnie Vincent once said, "The truth is... I'm always saddened when I kill an animal. It's not remorse I feel. I know why I'm a hunter. It's out of respect." But not always do the roles stay the same, sometimes, the tides turn and the hunted become the hunters. This story is so thought provoking, because of its classic theme that anyone can become the hunted. When one looks at “Hungry Like The Wolf” by duran duran, one can see that this theme is still pertinent to today’s world because even in music they show that anyone can become the hunted. One example is when in the duran duran song, they say “Straddle the line, in discord and rhyme, I’m on the hunt I’m after you.” The use of mood, suspense and setting are expertly crafted to support the theme of The Most Dangerous Game”.…

Instinct, something we all have, is necessary for survival. If we did not have instinct, we wouldn’t have learned anything and wouldn’t know what to do if there ever was a crisis. “I’ll give him a trail to follow…” (Connell, 11). As he was being hunted Rainsford’s, the protagonist from “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, primary instinct was to trick General Zaroff, the antagonist who hunts humans, and this instinct saved his life. “...dad’s star might have moved further… playing a solo…” (Dominey, 235). Tatum, the main character in Audition and Subtraction by Amy Fellner Dominy, learned from past experience that playing her instrument cheered her up. When her parents got a divorce, she used this instinct to her advantage and threw herself into her music by playing a solo for district honor band auditions. In the article “Surviving Hurricane Sandy” ,by Lauren Tarshis, “[Ariel Creamer] created a program called Survivor’s Silver Lining… helped numerous kids…” (17). Her instinct was to take her good fortune of surviving and give back to her community. All these people above had used their instinct to their advantage in order to survive, much as you will or have done in times of crisis.…

Richard Connell, the author of, "The Most Dangerous Game," depicts the theme, the most dangerous things are often well hidden; you never fully know how dangerous something is until it is right in your face and the hints are all out. Mr. Zaroff is the perfect example of how the most dangerous things are well hidden; in the article he says, "' I had to invent a new animal to hunt.'...'...It must have courage, cunning, and above all it must be able to reason.'" this shows that the most dangerous things are often well hidden because the animal he is talking about is humans; we are the the smartest species in the world. General Zaroff is hinting at the fact that he is hunting humans, Mr. Rainsford is not quite picking up on the hint…

Everyone in this world is influenced by someone or something. Your friends, parents, teachers, and even technology are only a few things that make you the person you are today. So when Rainsford stated that, "The world is made up of two classes: The hunters and the huntees. I agree with Rainsford; everyone is forced or influenced to do things. For example, bullies force you to be stronger, parents push you to be a better person and society pushes you to be the individual you are today.…

Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff are very alike in some ways. Both want to have the upper hand in an argument or situation. In the beginning of “The Most Dangerous Game”, Zaroff has the upper hand as he knows the terrain and has a threatening bodyguard. He allowed Rainsford to eat and stay at his château after he fell overboard. At the end of the story, Rainsford has the upper hand as he won “the game”, surprises Zaroff, and forces Zaroff to play the game he forced himself (Rainsford) to play.…
