A TV show that was only shown in America, kept the culture group very small; however, a website can reach anyone with internet access. With Internet access we can have information to many parts of pop culture, including music, film, television, advertising, sports, fashion, toys, magazines, and even comic books. Pop culture has also been affected by social websites such as, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and YouTube,
to name a few. These websites make it possible for people of all ages to share information either one-on-one, or with a large group of people. Online blogs have also given people a voice to speak what is on their mind; it has become an Internet-based journal. There has been controversy to relying on the Internet for news, and media coverage. Many websites online are solely for the purpose to spread false gossip on celebrities, and politicians. These websites will say anything just to receive traffic on their website, or the website might be part of a political party. The Internet also can be harmful to teens, as they deal with online predators, and the popular online bullying. Unfortunately, many teens have committed suicide because of online bullying on sites like MySpace, and Facebook. Another controversy is that the media might be “dumbing down” the news by creating shorter stories to publish on the Internet. The Internet is a “fad” that is here to stay. It can be a wonderful way to get news, music, and socialize, however, can be a dangerous, and sometimes biased place.
