    Mama Day

The entire structure of Mama Day is fitting to the telling of multiple love stories entertwined. Like the most heartfelt episode of Seinfeld ever Gloria Naylor doesn’t tell a love story, but rather lays out in detail the events of everyday life for all of the central characters. In the process the love stories of the characters are all told at once. The most obvious example is the relationship between George and Cocoa (arguably the main love story). Through the book we see them meet, fall in love, and go through excitement and hardship; all that love is. There is also the love story of Mama Day, Abigail, and Cocoa. Even though Abigail is Cocoa’s grandmother and Mama Day is her great-aunt, they both take on the role of mother through their mutual love for her. There is also the love story between Bernice, Ambush and Little Caesar. Despite their squabbles, they love each other. Love is one of the major themes in this book.…

A certified nursing assistant (CNA) is not the same as a medical assistant. The occupations both involve working with patients and collaborating with nurses and physicians in medical settings, but a CNA has much more specific duties. CNAs aid nurses by doing patient prep work, such as taking temperature or blood pressure, feeding and bathing patients, and filling the role of a general caregiver for patients who may not need constant medical attention, but do need assistance with personal maintenance in between medical procedures. CNAs and medical assistants may work in similar settings and perform similar tasks even if their level of education and their requirements for licensure or certification are different. A crucial difference between the two is that CNAs tend to provide bedside care to senescent patients, where medical assistants assist more with procedural or administrative preparation and housekeeping.…

The day my life changed was ten years ago when I found out that I was pregnant at the age of nineteen. I was pregnant with my first born, a baby boy that came in this world peeing on the nurses. I named him a biblical name, Emmanuel, which means “God is with us”. My son is so awesome, and he’s my miracle son because he was preemie weighing only two pounds and ten ounces, and he was fourteen inches long. The best part of being a new mommy was getting him through all of the earliest phases of his life and his first time saying “mommy”.…

While she was softly snoring, I pressed the button on my bedside and within a few minutes a nurse responded. I asked, “Can I see my son now?”…

I was thinking about how to be the best mom I could be, how to better mine and Cheyenne’s life, and what to do next. I believe this is normal when you have a kid. I took all these thoughts into consideration though. I did not grow up knowing my birth family, I was in foster care. I really did not want that for my daughter.
