In the backyard of the log cabin we stayed in my friends and I played “sneak up” which is a game where you try to sneak up on the stationary person in the cabin.
We went all the way around the road, and the cabin then snuck up on my brother (the stationary person in the cabin). Since Yosemite is in the mountains there’s high air pressure which means you get a lot faster. That happened to me. When I was running for maybe fifteen minutes I started to get really tired. Before we left for Yosemite we searched for things about Yosemite. We learned that it’s the Nation’s third oldest national park, and that it’s almost 1,200 square miles! We also saw that an Ahwahnee Indian tribe lived there for about a century. The Douglas-fir Tussock Moth is a big problem in Yosemite. When they are immature they climb up trees and eat the leaves and or plants on the ground. In recent years there has been a moth outbreak and many moths go to Yosemite causing them to eat trees, and plants (which is their food). Also these moth eggs and cocoons can cause rashes, welts, and itches to some people. Many animals dwell in
Yosemite. Some are: the Sierra Nevada red fox, black bears, bobcats, and lots of species of bats. One night while I was outside I saw a dark night sky which is a sky that doesn’t have a lot of air pollution, and light. It was gorgeous. I stood out there for about thirty minutes and just stared at the sky. Also inside this awesome park are two glaciers called Lyell, and Maclure. These glaciers are super important because they supply fresh, cold water to the Lyell Fork, and the Tuolumne River. There is a old gold mine called Golden Crown Mine. It’s surrounded by logs and it goes deep under ground. If you wish to go see it you can but it’s a day’s hike to get there. My family and I drove down into the valley and saw breath-taking sequoias and huge meadows. It was crazy how big the sequoias were, they were like giants with leaves! There was a place not to far away from our cabin that was it’s own little park about sequoias. During our trip Yosemite we visited that park. In that park we made rock towers, looked at sequoias, played tag, and gazed around the park. The luxurious Ahwahnee Hotel opened a few years after Yosemite opened. During World War Two though it turned into a naval Hospital. I you travel to this national park make sure to clean up after yourself, pick up any trash you see and throw it away, and be kind to the park. Also don’t forget to extinguish your fires! Yosemite is awesome I loved it and I hope you will see it one day.
