Destruction from the Gods The motif where the gods destroy something they or another god created comes from the god(s) getting angry at something that they don’t like. For example, in the Maori myth the god Tawhirimatea go angry when his brother Tane separated their parents. Tawhirimatea got so angry that he ripped his eyes out and they became
the first stars, then he turned his blind fury on his brothers creating hurricanes, tornadoes, and cyclones. In the Yoruba myth the god Olokun got angry when the god Obatala created man and he created a great flood that nearly wiped out Obatala’s creations. In both of these myth examples the gods that got angry were either not listened to or not consulted, so they wanted revenge on those responsible, in a way that’s how some humans are too.
Family Tree The Family Tree motif is in many myths like Greeks, Incas, Egyptians, etc… In the greek myth the titan Cronus is the father of the god Zeus and his brothers and sisters. Zeus made his sister Hera. Poseidon and Hades are Zeus's brothers. In the Incan myth Pachacamac married his sister-wife Pachamama and they had a son and a daughter. In the Egyptian myth the god Atum joined with his shadow to make a son(Shu) and a daughter(Tefnut). Shu and Tefnut produced Geb(earth) and Nut(sky). Shu and Tefnut also made the gods Isis,Hathor,Thoth, Osiris, Seth, and Nephthys.
