The Movie Crash
Crash. A collision between entities that results in damage. In the movie “Crash” different dialectics ultimately crashed. Racism was a key concept in this movie and it greatly influenced how the audience perceived the movie. In “Crash” all of the characters in some way, shape, or form were affected by each other. Their lives seemed to somehow “crash” into each other’s and have a significant effect on their outlook on society. Referring to the concept of reality as motion and the concept of contradiction as energy for motion, I will discuss how the characters in “Crash “were changed by each there. Reality as motion is defined as the process of becoming in human life. According to this concept appearance is being and the essence is becoming. …show more content…

This concept can be defined or described as when reality is in contradiction to the ideal, and that urges the person or entity to change. The contradiction between the ideal and reality is fundamental to energy of motion. This meaning a conflict between the two must be apparent for change to occur. My first example of this concept in the movie “Crash” is Farhad, the Persian storeowner. In reality, Farhad could not provide enough security for his store and family. He would have ideally like for his store and family to be safe. Farhad’s change was when he decided to buy a gun and eventually change his locks. This gun he decided would be the security measure that he needed to ensure the safety of his store. Moreover, Cameron’s character can also be an example of this concept. In reality, Cameron was looked down upon by his wife after he blatantly stood and let a cop molest her. She felt he was less of a man and Cameron did not like this. So, ideally Cameron wanted his wife to see that he could stand up and be a man to the authorities. This urged him to change by not listening to authorities when he was pulled over. This was a breaking point for him he felt this was the time to show his wife, and himself, that he was not weak. “Crash” exemplified one aspect of human life that is commonly overlooked. It showed how diverse the world is and how dialectic influences who we are. In the

The cinematized versions of Niki Lauda and James Hunt effectively described motorsport’s ubiquitous appeal, in Ron Howard’s Rush. It is a rather embarrassingly barbaric allure, but unfortunately, it is one we; as a society; have not, and likely will never outgrow. People just love how close motorsport gets to death.…

When Anthony an Peter decided to rob the Cabot’s they did it because Jean decide to grab on to Ricks’ arm at the sight of Anthony and Peter. The movie starts off a day later from the present when a Det. Violence versus non-violence is represented through the clashing of the two cultures and the differences of their cultural values and ideals. The modern American society, where Book is originally situated is evidently a society that uses much violence to achieve things whenever necessary. This type of society is visually implied by Peter Weir as being corrupted, seedy and violent in nature which is shown through darkness, and filming is often conducted under the cover of night, in crowded and cramped spaces, and by using artificial lighting. For example the scene conducted at the Happy Valley night club shows this type of violent and depressive society. Book grabs a suspect from inside the cramped and sordid bar, takes him outside into the night and slams his face into the car window, for Samuel to identify, where we see the shocked faces of Samuel and Rachel who wait inside a light blue car - which represents their purity and innocence during this situation and this contrasts with the dark, violent and ‘foreign’ society that surrounds them. As this light coloured car is owned by Book, it is also suggestive that although he uses violence, Book is a good and moral man at heart which is revealed throughout the film.…

The film, ’Crash’, is about how Paul Haggis forces us to see other people's perspective through racially prejudiced actions. Racism is the belief of different cultures, this is usually to do with one person who thinks their own race is superior and have the right to dominate or to rule others. Historical racism is where there were no rules when discriminating other peoples races and had no consequences for their actions, most of the time the outcome comes to physical abuse and even death. Modern racism is like historical racism but does not resort into physical attacks because there is the change in racial abuse in society and people are trying to promote the good.…

The narrative, The Driver’s Seat struck home for me because I just received my driver’s license this past May, 2015. I took time for me to actually drive and to become comfortable behind the wheel of a car. This piece of writing spoke to me and allowed me to review some of the identical thinking points that I went through while getting to the point of taking control of my dad’s car. The story effectively walked me through the trials of spirit and mental anguish that preceded me in taking hold of the vehicle with my dad as the co-pilot giving directions. This was the exact thing the driving instructor in The Driver’s Seat‘ taught the author. The routine of how to maneuver and throw caution to the wind- taking risks- to get the author over…

Every other driver on Six Forks preyed on my vulnerabilities. I remained in the right-hand lane the entire twenty minute journey to school, afraid to switch lanes on the off-chance an impatient driver might cut me off. The whole world was passing me and my little green CRV.…

The film "Crash" directed by Paul Haggis challenges the audience through the theme of prejudice, isolation and through the use of characters how the audience views them. The film is set in Los Angeles, and shows the confrontation of people 'crashing' into each other, due to their views and beliefs. Haggis shows this through cinematography, music, irony and through the use of characters. Haggis portrays the lives of every-day people who collide with each other because of their racial, gender and cultural differences. As well as the collisions the characters have with one another, Haggis shows the collisions and confrontations that they have with their own values and beliefs.…
