The Movie Mud
The intriguing movie Mud is about a man who is wanted in the state of Arkansas for murder. Mud lives on an island by himself in a boat to avoid being detected by the police. Ellis, a fourteen year old boy, goes to this island with his friend Neckbone and runs into Mud a few times. They decide to help Mud reach out to Juniper, the girl he is in love with, so they can leave Arkansas. However, they have to be very discreet with their assistance. Not only are the police looking for Mud, a bounty hunter named Carver is looking for him as well. Carver and his gang want to find Mud to avenge his brother’s death. He punched a senior in the face because he was bothering her. After that incident, May Pearl told him to call her sometimes. That short moment of dialogue they had caused Ellis to think she had interest in him. Then, when they were at the bonfire, he gave her a bracelet. She gave him a kiss in return, and this caused him to believe that he had a girlfriend. He kept calling her, but she stopped answering his calls. He saw her in person one day, and she pretended not to see him. One day, he saw her in the car with another guy and he got really upset. He hit the guy, and the guy beat Ellis up. May Pearl told Ellis that she wasn’t his girlfriend, and that he was only 14. This caused Ellis to cry; he told her he loved her, but she didn’t feel the same way. This caused Ellis to question love. There are some events that occurred that weren’t positive, but they had positive effects on others. The final shootout at Ellis’ house wasn’t positive because people died. Mud got shot in the midsection during this scene. However, after the shooting, Ellis’ parents became closer. Throughout the movie, you can see how they are frustrated with their relationship.
