The Myers-Briggs Personality Test

Personality, according to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is “the set of emotional qualities, ways of behaving, etc., that makes a person different from other people” (2016). God creates each individual with a unique set of characteristics much like how a fingerprint can be distinguished from person to person. The Myers-Briggs personality test uses sixty-four questions to help determine a person’s personality. Each personality is associated with a four-letter code with up to sixteen different variations of the code and subsequent personality types. After taking the test, my personality type leans heavily towards ISFJ (Introvert Sensing Feeling Judging), a conclusion that I agree with. The ISFJ personality type stresses a strong work ethic, commitment, loyalty, and service; all characteristics that agree with my personality. This drive, however, can often create a stressful work dynamic. ISFJ’s are “often unappreciated, at work, home, and play. Ironically because they prove over and over that they can be relied on for their loyalty and…high-quality work, those around them often take them for granted—even advantage of them” ("ISFJ”, n.d.). Before I made the move to Lynchburg, I held a position at a church where my work-ethic and desire to help created an atmosphere where I was seen solely for my abilities and talents. This conflict, in agreement with the ISFJ personality, caused me to feel “overworked” ("ISFJ”, n.d.) and contributed to my anxiety and depression. Conversations with co-workers consisted of work requests and revisions to work that I had done but did not extend past that.
