The Nerd Character Analysis
Hilarity and mayhem collide in “The Nerd,” the latest comedy staged by Vive Les Arts Theater in Killeen opening Fri. Apr. 8 at 7 pm. Written by the late playwright, Larry Shue, the plot centers on a surprise visit from Rick Steadman (The Nerd) to see his old Vietnam War buddy Willum Cubbert. During the war, Rick saved Willum's life, so Willum happily lets his friend stay for a few days until Rick's quirky personality and behavior become unbearable. Finally, Willum hatches a scheme along with his girlfriend Tansy and pal Axel to out-weird Rick to force him to leave.

“This is a story of Willum who can’t say no to anyone and that’s how I am too, so I don’t have to do a lot of acting,” laughed Jordan Michael Brinkman, portraying Willum. “When

The scenes are filled with playful banter with quick-witted zings from the seven-member cast.

“The antics that Willum, Tansy and Axel do to get rid of Rick are hysterical,” said Jerry Juliano, playing a wise-cracking Axel, and a veteran of many plays at the theater. “It’s an instant kinship with this cast, we all click making it even funnier,” he said.

An over-the-top June Cleever is how Crystal Hansen described Tansy, an aspiring meteorologist and career-mined woman in love with Willum, but who is reluctant to give in to her true feelings for him. “ It’s a fun romance to watch because the audience ends up rooting for them to come together,” Hansen said. She revealed the play has a happy ending but with a twist.

A classically trained nerd by his own admission, Jonathan Spear plays Rick, a demanding role that requires him to tap into all his comedic skills. “It’s zany, light-hearted show with lots of physical comedy, like ‘80s sitcoms “Three Company,” Spear said. He applauds director Jerry Morrison for keeping the play crisp and entertaining. “Jerry knows how to make the comedy move, and not get bogged down. That’s why its fun to work with

It provides contrast to a meaningful play with random anecdotes, funny scenes, and a nonsensical storyline overall. The fact that this occurrence is nearly impossible added to the experience. The play was very well executed by the cast and staff of it at Northview High School. The characters were well chosen and knew what they were doing. Their facial expressions, tone, and dialogue were on point to deliver a marvelous performance. The characters’ lines were well spoken and added a lot of humor to the play. Although the play was written by Camoletti himself, it could not have been pulled off any better than was by this cast and team. It is no doubt that Robert fell in love with Gretchen- they are both crazy as…

The comic mood should continue when Sideway comes on the stage. He should be lively and full of character as he is your typical London "geezer". He delivers his first few lines with an almost fake admiration for Ralph; "I am calling you Mr Clarke as one calls Mr Garick Mr Garick". Sideway should have a very "in-your-face' attitude to Ralph. Ralph should be very intimidated and suspicious but remain on the spot in a…

From what I see, a large portion of O’Conner’s work take after a comparable example. The principle character are stuck in a trouble situation and toward the end they see the light of God's ways and have their recovery. Christians have frequently commented her works for being corrupted however in reality she utilizes these situations and portrayal to express the force of God in a positive light. The shameless character of the Misfit is skillfully portrayed, just like the "enlightened" character of Grandma. Most of these characters always go through some kind of change in their daily lives. An adjustment in their perspectives of the world and in their observations about existence and passing. Such character in this specific story is Grandma and, as I would like to think, the Misfit. I imagine that…

Chris Lilley is fantastic as all of the three incredibly unique characters. Funny, realistic, and importantly he avoids being a one sided parody by making the characters very different in their own ways. Watching this twice over it seems to me that all three characters are abit to real for me, the problem is that, im sure a lot of boys and girls through their schooling years have probably come across people who are very similar to Mr G, Jonah and of course Ja’mie.…

I was skeptical about one of my now good friends, Tristan. The reason for this is me and Tristan got into a fist fight in sixth grade. We fought because I thought he was trying to fight my friend, William because Tristan looked mean, after the fight we ended up talking and it turned out that my William and him were just messing around and it was all a misunderstanding. I judged Tristan because of his look and how he acted without knowing him, now we are good friends and play Clash Of Clans together. This anecdote relates to the story Freak the Mighty By Rodman Philbrick because I judged Tristan because of the way he looks, just as everybody did to Max at the beginning of the story but in the end they find out how they perceived him wasn't how Max really is.…

Kramer’s writing is very aggressive and adult like right off of the bat, but in a way it is a good thing because people do not hear some of the things said in the play enough. In one example Mickey is speaking to Ned about men when Mickey replies, “Sex is liberating. It’s always guys like you who’ve never had one who are always screaming about relationships, and monogamy and fidelity and holy matrimony. What are you, a closet straight,” (pg.55). Although this is not the most vulgar language, Mickey talks about physical intimacy between two men which is not talked about enough. Watching the men act out this scene showed a different side of living, and I felt as if I were there in the room having the same conversation with them. Another example of vulgar language is when Bruce and Ned are fighting before their interview with the mayor’s assistant and Ned screams, “Ned: ‘Bruce, Albert may be dying. Why doesn’t that alone make you want to fight harder?’ Bruce: ‘Get off my back!’ Ned: ‘Get off your ass!’” (pg.79). Kramer’s writing here blew me away, not only because there was phenomenal acting, but the way the scene picked up intensity as the conversation flowed, by the end I felt like I was being yelled at by Ned. The language being used is not typically seen in many plays, but the words are used so delicately and said at the right time so that an audience member feels like they are on stage…
