The Nine Code Of Ethics For Nurses

Nursing, like all professions, required a code of ethics. This code is extremely important to nurses as it defines the duties and obligations of each nurse and they are expected to adhere to it. The first Code of Ethics was noted in the 1950s and published by the American Nurses Association according to Zerwekh (2015). There are nine Code of Ethics for Nurses that have been approved by the ANA. First and foremost, the nurse must show compassion and respect for each patient and family they care for regardless of sex, age, religious status, financial status, etc. Secondly, the nurse is committed to make sure that the patient and their family is cared for to the best of his or her ability to include them in participate in the patient care as well as helping find a compromise if the patient and family members do no agree on those choices. This is so important because the nurse is the one who sees the patient regularly, cares for the patient in the hospital setting, is the familiar face that checks on the patient during their shift and whom the patient and family feel comfortable with.
