The Nurse Administrator Role
The nurse administrator role is one that I was curious in learning about, because I will finish up my Masters of Health Care Administration this year. Nursing administrators career choices range from nurse managers to Chief Nursing Officers (CNO). Two other career choices in this role are nurse supervisor and health information nurse specialists. The main objective of the nurse administrator is to assure that the best possible care is being administered to all the patients being seen in an area or unit of the hospital. Nurse administrators also handle all issues as they arise. Nurse administrators are usually background players, making sure everything runs smoothly. “Nurse administrators demonstrate a level of higher education, training and leadership skills required for advancing into the upper levels of healthcare, such as Chief Nursing Officers, offering a large opportunity for growth within the healthcare system” (Becoming a Nurse Administrator, n.d.). …show more content…
They are an asset in assuring patient care is optimized in all situations. Ensuring that ethics are a prime focus is a large part of the NA’s role. A nurse administrator has a huge leadership role in today’s hospital. A good NA will help to assure that the staff is comfortable talking about any ethical issues they feel need to be discussed. Also, a good nurse administrator will help staff become cognizant of the personal ethical issues by first having an open line of communication with all staff members (Pavlish, 2015).
