One example of this is when Circi gave advice to oddyseus saying "Sail on the side of Scylla thereby sacrificing only 6 men instead of the entire ship. . Odysseus was given advice from Circe that said not to try to fight Scylla even when she takes six of your men, but Odysseus tried to fight her and he lost three more men than the six he already lost. . Her advice also seems to come with other relaxing, enjoyable, and maybe slightly inappropriate activities when he tried to fight Scylla after strictly being told not to. Because of this ignorant action, he lost three more men on top of the other six. A second example is when she warns him of impending dangers, such as the Sirenes. Sirenes were mermaids who bewitch men with their melodic singing. When his crewmembers were once seduced they went towards them because of their beautiful singing and beauty. Unfortunatly Oddyseus wasn't warned for just anything, the Sirenes were man eaters aka cannibles. As soon as his crew members got to the Sirenes they were eaten to the very bone. Oddyseus watched his very crewmembers be eaten alive as he could do nothing now.
A third example is when Telemachos aka odysesous son kept tellingthe siuitors that one day oddyseous will be back from his trip. It wasn't much of and advice but more of a fact as he talked to them. The suitors continued to ignore him and penelope and continues wrecking their house and taking their food. As the years passed by and the warnings continued the suitors never stopped. Once Oddyseous cameback and saw all the suitors he was enranged and due to their acts of disloyalty he killed everyone at no mercy.
These are three great examples of occassions in which in the oddessey were good advice is given but not taken and all is in result of disaster.

Odysseus has been doing this through the whole book to his crew. The first major time was when he and his crew went into the cave of the cyclops. This next quote was right before Odysseus and his crew were going to stab the cyclopes in the eye. “‘Courage- no panic, no one hang back now!’”(9.422) Even thought they knew that they had to get out of that situation but yet he wanted to seem heroic but really he almost got everyone killed. This is also showing that he is just a guy that wants to to be know for saving everyone and not known for a good leader. My next quote comes from when Odysseus asks his crew to go into the woods to find Circe’s halls. None of the men want to go into the woods because they just got done with rowing a ship for days on days. Odysseus talks them into going into the woods finally but they don't want to. “And so, numbering off my band men-at-arms into two platoons...” (10.222-23) Odysseus had no clue what was going to be on the island but he sent out two groups of men to find out who lived on the island and if they could stay there. He has no clue of who lives here if they are nice or not so really he just a whole bunch of men into war empty handed. My finally quote is when he had to be the only man to live through the sirens. So he plugged ears of his crew members and had them tie him to then mass of the boat. “...I stopped the ears of my comrades one by one.”(12.193) Odysseus could have whent around the island but Odysseus had to be the greatest man alive to hear the Sirens and still be able to tell the…

Odysseus is thinking more the first example of this is, (Homer The Odyssey, 16. 264-268) “Now, /so we could plan the slaughter of our foes./ Come, give me the full tally of these suitors-/ I must know their numbers, gauge their strength. / Then I’ll deploy this old tactician’s wits, / decide if two of us can take them on. /” (Homer The Odyssey, 16. 264-268).This shows how Odysseus is getting smarter. One of the most entertaining passages I have read comes from The Odyssey when Odysseus is required to change his mentality to fit his disguise as a beggar. Throughout The Odyssey, Odysseus exhibits limitless power and as a result demonstrates fearless behaviors by abruptly acting however he feels. Examples such as Odysseus choosing to take his men to sail through and explore the land of the Kyklops, staying an entire year with his men on Kirke’s island for his own sexual benefits, and his immediate urges to boast or taunt his foes, all demonstrate Odysseus’ unrestrained actions. This list goes on and on which is why this particular passage is so amusing.…

Einstein noticed this occurrence and said that “the difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.” This is shown everyday no matter how knowledgeable we become because Odysseus seemed omniscient, but still found predicaments for himself. His thoughtless decision caused the death of 6 of his loyal men. Figurative language has power in writing. It is a tool that most authors use to show emphasis on how important or scary or beautiful something is. This relates to, Homer’s use of figurative language in the epic poem, The Odyssey. Throughout this epic, Odysseus is on a journey back home to Ithaca. Homer uses figurative language to convey that the Land of the Dead as a terrifying and transformative setting for Odysseus’s development as a hero.…

In the Odyssey, temptation is defined as hunger- both literal hunger (temptation for food) and figurative hunger i.e. temptation for luxury, ambition, wealth, women, power, glory etc. This “hunger”, whether literal or figurative keeps Odysseus’s men from reaching their homes and uniting with their families. However, longing for family or grief for loved ones drives away “hunger”. Odysseus is the only man among his crew to reach home to Ithaca because his longing for his family and native land surpasses the “hungers” he encounters and experiences.…

In Antigone, Creon tried to redirect the direction of his fate, but ultimately, the prophecy about the future of his actions had ultimately become true. In this, Creon realized that from the moment he had set his foolish law into motion, that his ultimate fate had been set. He states in the epic that “My crimes, my stubborn, deadly- look at us, the killer, the killed, father and son, the same blood- the misery! My plans, my mad frantic heart, my soul cut off so young! Lost to the world not through you stupidity, not, my own.” (Sophocles 1393-1399). Creon then realizes that the blame falls to him in this matter, but his ultimate destiny was not in his hands. Creon had tried to change his fate according to the prophecies wishes, but his efforts were ultimately futile. This helplessness of fate is also shown in Oedipus the King. After discovering after all the tinkering he had done to change his fate, Oedipus had realized that the very prophecy that he feared, had indeed come true. “I’d never come to this, my father's murderer… mother's husband… Mother i defiled coupling in my father's bed, spawning lives in the loins that spawned my wretched life. It’s mine alone, my destiny- I am Oedipus.” (Sophocles 1491-1497). With this devastating travesty that has been laid upon him, Oedipus had realized that this fate was his, and his alone, not matter if it was a result of his doing or the gods, and it is with this that Sophocles show how man can’t control their fate.…

Xenophon uses the story of Panthea and her husband Abradatas as an example. Xenophon writes that Cyrus sends for Abradatas based on Panthea’s suggestion (184). Once Abradatas arrived, Cyrus sent him to his wife where she told him to repay Cyrus by becoming an ally to Cyrus. The generosity Cyrus showed to Panthea came back to him though Abradatas. Cyrus gained considerably through his use of generosity to Pantea; he gained a fiercely loyal ally in Abradatas. Abradatas’s alliance also gave Cyrus an increase in the size of his army. The gains Cyrus experienced were much more significant than what he would have experienced if he had behaved selfishly. Xenophon uses this story to show how Cyrus was willing to be generous to those who were not on his side, to then inspire them to be loyal to…
